MLKeith.. is the comb too low? Perhaps one of them stock pads that raise you up and soften the recoil impact might help. Keep the bad comments coming. It helps a lot. :D

Yes, the comb is high for me using the sights. I shot it for the first time on Sunday. I have to lay my cheekbone right on the comb to line up the sights. Needless to say, my cheekbone is bruised today. I'll have to try to find a position that gives me some cushion. I suspect the comb is, indeed,set up for a scope. It seems that it would be perfect for that. I have the black stock as well.
Range report: I shot some powerbelts because that's what I had bought to shoot when I picked up the gun. The regular 348 gr. were erratic with 100 gr. of T7 ffg. At 100 yd. I'd get two to print in 2", then the next two would be nowhere near the POI. I had real good accuracy with the PB platinum 338 gr's. All of them printed in 2 1/2". I mic'ed the PB's. The diameter of the platinumsis several thousanths bigger than the regular ones. Considering the bore size, I suspect that's the reason for the better consistancey. I'll be looking for some of those conicals to try next.

were the 348s copper or lead? Sometimes the little plastic skirt sticks to them. I just pop them on and off a few times when i buy a pack.

I guess I would like to second the use of Dan's 460Nex conical. I shoot it with 90 grains of T7-3f, with the shot card, that Indismokepole told you about. For a bullet that is as heavy as it is - it is a great shooter and will handle your elk just fine. That load gives you about 1500 fps and about 2300 fpe @ the muzzle. It is a very accurate bullet. I do not have the same rifle you are talking about but I do have essentially the same barrel a GM-LRH-SS with open sights. The only thing I changed from the factory installed sight is I removed the rear Williams ramp sight and installed a TC adjustable rear sight. The TC gives you much better adjustment (increment adjustments) versus a sliding adjustment.

With this set up it is very easy and the bullet is so accurate to pick clay pigeons from 50 yards to 125 yards... One shot one pigeon.

Dan can size the bullet to your barrel so that it is pretty much a slip fit bullet - no short started necessary. Just push the shot card into the barrel set the bullet in and push itdown with your thumb then the ram-rod. No worry about the bullet coming of the powder.

IndiSP says that he is using a .504 Nex but I found them to be just a bit tight in my barrel especially in cold weather and with a slightly fouled barrel. I am using .503's and they seem to be really the bullet I need for all temps and conditions.

The size of that bullet will have a dramatic effect on any elk if bullet placement is close to the vitals.... It is also large enough that you do not have to worry about the pure lead bullet blowing up on impact + plus it's ballistics are not as bad as you might think with a 460 grain bullet.

I shot a whitetail this year with one @ 97 yards and as you would suspect - pass through - not sure when it might have slowed down...

Dave: Re read the post. The comb is too high for iron sights but perfect for a scope. Glad to see you are back on the forums. People were worried about you as you were off for a few days. They suspected power outage and such. I only scope my rifles as I am 69 and iron sights don't work anymore for me. Arizona allows scopes in muzzleloader seasons. We do not call them anything other than "muzzleloader hunts". By the way this year Arizona gives me a free for life hunting license since I turn 70 in May. I bought one this year anyway but in May I can request the Pioneer license and it is free and good as long as I stay a resident. Nice to know some think it is OK for the old guys to stay in the woods (no reference to the guy that said if we couldn't see good enought to hunt without a scope we should give up hunting). OK I did mean him.

you have to watch the bore Diam of your gun if the bullet is to loose it may work its way up off your powder charge and then Accur. will fall off and it could also be DANGEROUS because of preshure build up behind the bullet before it pushes the bullet out. that is why you need to slug your barrle to make sure of the bore size befor ordering anything like I said My bore is .503.5 so I shoot a .504 to were the rifleings will cut the bullet to make sure the bullet stays seated on the powder charge, if your bore sluges out at .503 then you could shoot a .503.5 Dan will size them to any size you need. most of use use pure lead.
as far as a follow up shot or the cold I have not had any probblems reloading as the oversied wad pushes 95% of foulling back as it goes down wich inturn makes a smoother run for the bullet.
Sabot loader may have a little smaller bore than mine that is why he uses the .503 size , you need to slug you barrle

What size of BullShop are you shooting in you new Knight? But yours is a KP1 is it not???
