Ram Rod or Range Rod Needed
I am looking for a "Heavy Duty" ram rod for range and cleaning purposes. I want one with female adapters at both ends. I also want the adapters to be part of the rod, and not the crimp on style. I am fed up wth the crimp on style rods. I imagine I will have to go with a solid brass rod?? Any ideas?? Thanks, Tom.

Might check my reply to "Omega Ram Rod..." http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=2560415&mpage=1&=#2561667 I should tell you that I really do not use the supplied Omega ram rod, although it would be an easy thing to - cut the original down and drill and tap, what I have down is what you do not want I purchase a ram-rod kit from Wal-mart and build one to fit with the super jag installed.. it is a crimp fit but the only thing I use it for is loading once or twice a year while hunting - everything else I use the range rod... I have one in the pick up that goes everywhere with me and one in the house for cleaning... |

I would also recommend using a bore guide to protect the muzzle. Like:

I have three of them and they work really well and do collapse if you wish to take afield. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712-cat20819&id=0034454215947a&navCount=1& podId=0034454&parentId=cat20819&masterpath id=&navAction=push&catalogCode=QW&rid= &parentType=index&indexId=cat20819&has JS=true |
RE: Ram Rod or Range Rod Needed
I made my own. Go to your local steel supplier and pick up a piece of 3/8" rod. Set up in a lathe and center drill/drill & tap 10-32 thread 1" deep. I made 2 one aluminum and one brass. If you have to take it to a machine shop it is a simple job and won't take much time.
