ML shotgun for deer?

I met this one guy in NC who did alot of deer hunting with dogs, so I was suprized when he said he only shot a muzzleloader. He showed it to me and it was the "trapper shotgun" I think made by cva. He said it shot better than his modern shotguns did. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with black powder shotguns loaded with buckshot or slugs for deer hunting.

Ran into a guy once who was shooting the BRI - type sabot slugs from a Brown Bess for deer hunting. It ain't exactly a shotgun, but it has a smooth bore!!

I know guys that shoot .62 caliber roundballs out of smoothbores very accurately.
