Tripple 7 Loads
I am going to try tripple 7 in my 50cal Encore . From what I have heard you dont have to use as much Tripple 7 as you do Clean shot or Pyrodex . Can anyone tell me how many grains of Tripple 7 powder make the same load as 150gr of pyrodex .And also 100gr , 110 gr , 120gr and so on .
Thanks Frank |
RE: Tripple 7 Loads
they say the rule of thumb 10 to 15 percent reduce charge with triple 777 150 grain pyrodex would be about130 to 135 grains of triple 777 but i think that is way to much for that rifle

RE: Tripple 7 Loads
I have shot from 80 to 150 grs in my encore, but with the
140 and 150 grs the patterns opened up more, the thing I didn't like about it was it really fouled the barrel, and the 150 gr had a pretty good kick to it. I want to try it some more this summer. http://www.hunting-pictures.com/memb...ght&encore.jpg |
RE: Tripple 7 Loads
Here's my personal 777 conversion chart I use in my Knight USAK for 100yd shots:
400gr sabot - 125gr CleanShot - 120gr Pyro RS - 100 to 105gr 777 350gr sabot - 110gr CleanShot - 105gr Pyro RS - 90gr 777 300gr sabot - 95gr CleanShot - 90gr Pyro RS - 80gr 777 *** the 400gr sabot work-up for 777 is an estimate as I haven't worked that load to it's full potential as of yet *** "Every moving thing that liveth, I give unto you as meat" (Gen 9:3) Trust God..........but keep your powder dry! |
RE: Tripple 7 Loads
deercutter,
I have shot 150grs. 777 in my Encore and Omega with very good results using 3oogr. Barnes MZ's or the 289gr. Remington Copper Solid bullet. I only get average accuracy using 150gr loads of 777 when I use lighter pistol bullet/sabot combinations. I have never chronographed these loads and they do kick quite a bit, so if you are recoil sensitive I would most definetly reduce my powder charges. You do get more fouling using 150grs of 777, but I always clean with a dampened spit patch between shots. If you want to duplicate the load that you are currently using, go by what lonewolf says. Reduce by 10-15% Good shooting and keep it in the 10x mac454 |
RE: Tripple 7 Loads
Maybe your barrel is dirty because you are not getting complete powder burn with 150 grain loads.

RE: Tripple 7 Loads
I hope all you guys are aware that Hodgdon data says to NEVER go above 100 grains of Triple7. I' m a believer, especially with the big conicals I shoot.
