New ML Scope
If you guys were to buy a new ML Scope would you spend $249.00 for the Nikon Omega or cough up $469 for a Leupold VX 111 3.5x10 40 mm. I have the Leupold on a 7mm mag and I know this scope excels close to dusk or dawn. I like both of these also for the eye relief. Also later down the road I could put the Leupold on any gun I wanted.
Thanks in Advance Jeff |
RE: New ML Scope
Well if money is not an object, and you like Leupold.. why not get what you want. I have not used either scope, so you are far more qualified to judge which is better, and better suited to you..

RE: New ML Scope
Leupold VarX I shotgun scope...excellent scope for the money ($199 for the 2x7). More eye relief than the Nikon Omega, more field of view, lighter but smaller objective lens. It's easy to figure out hold over when shooting a ML out to 200 yards. Don't need circles IMHO!

RE: New ML Scope
Both scopes are great -I agree get want makes you happy

RE: New ML Scope
Old/New that leupold shotgun scope 2-7x33mm looks like an excellent scope. Maybe Santa will get me one of them. I have a muzzleloader that would sure like to wear that... I never looked at a Leupold when I was scope hunting. I looked atNikon only. Leupold is agreat value. I read a couple sights that had reviews on the scope and it is highly recommended... thanks for the heads up.

RE: New ML Scope
For a ML, I'd be getting a Nikon Monark4X. I always carry my 10X compact binoculars when hunting. If I didn't carry binoculars I'd go with the Leupold variable.

RE: New ML Scope
I'm getting the lupe 2x7 shotgun scope for Christmas to put on my Pro Hunter MZ. It has the heavy duplex. I failed to mention that earlier. I already have one on my 12 ga. Just love it!

RE: New ML Scope
Normally I use a 2-7x32mm Nikon Pro Staff and have had excellent luck with them. But I always wanted to mount a Leupold on one of my muzzleloaders. I have an very old Leupold on a center fire and it has never been touched in 30 years and still shoots perfect. Perhaps I will forgo Santa and just buy it myself. Never could depend on the old elf too much for whatI wanted..
Have you seen it listed any where for less then $199.00 |
RE: New ML Scope
I forgot to mention I am going to put the scope on a TC Prohunter 50 cal.
I finally wanted to upgrade from my TC Thunderhawk that I got 15 years ago. It sports a Leupold 4x Shotgun scope with a heavy duplex. Thants one of the only thing I don't like. At 50 yds its ok but out farhter than that it seems to block out the target. Jeff |
RE: New ML Scope
my brother has the nikon it is a very nice scope..but i would never pay that much money for it.i personally cant see a difference looking through the nikon or my $90 bushnell banner scopes that i have on my muzzleloader and rifles.

RE: New ML Scope
If money is no object Leup is great .
i have the Nikon Omega I like it, very bright and appears to be durable. |
RE: New ML Scope
I have a Leupold 1.5x5 x22 I bought it in 1978 for 112.00 It is the Vari XIII. This scope has been on 7 differen rifles always sold the rifle. It has beed the clearest scope I own with the best field of view. I set it at 1.5 in the woods and you can see almost as well as with open sights.

RE: New ML Scope
I agree they are nice scopes... but I just bought Simmons pro diamond 4x32 shotgun scope and it has great optics thumbscrew adjustments, lifetime true zero full replacemnet warranty. If it ever goes out of zero from a scope issue they will replace. $68 Has optics comparable to the low end nikons. at 1/3 the cost. I'll admit I was hesitant at first, putting it onmy Omega. But it has been great. Good eye relief too. 4 1/2 -5". Just my .02

RE: New ML Scope
Cayugad,
Listed for $199 in a couple places (Cabelas, Bass Pro). You should be able to get a $20 off coupon from Cabelas this time of year. Have not seen it cheaper. old/new |

Not to change the discussion brand - but if I were going to get a new scope it would be a Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9x40 with rain guard lenses and a ballistic reticule... If you want a Nikon and the Pro-Staff is OK - here is a outlet for a 3x9x40 with bullet drop compensator for $139.99 http://www.scopesnmore.com/riflescopes4less/nikon_prostaff_rifle_scopes.htm |
RE: New ML Scope
All the above mentioned scopes are great. I've shot my brother-in-law's Nikon Omega and really like it. I just happened to be partial to the Lupes (lifetime guarentee also). Bushnell & Simmons make great products nowadays. Cost has to be figured in. If it wasn't I would probably shoot one of those German/Austrian scopes.

RE: New ML Scope
I just mounted the Leupold VX111 3.5x10 on the Pro Hunter tonight. Its all bore sighted and ready to go to the range this weekend. I figured for a couple hundred dollars more I wouldn't regret anything a few years from now. If any body out there sets up this rig, I put the leupold double dovetail mount w/ med ht rings. If you went with the low like leupold website says you would have a hard time pulling the hammer, especially with gloves on when its cold.
Thanks for all the input Jeff |
