Default Omega Rifle, and Omega scope

I've had my Omega rifle for 3 years now, and just put on a Nikon Omega scope. My question for those who have this combo, which rings did you use? I used medium height rings, and cant get the scope far enough forward to use flip up caps, they hit the rear sight, and get proper eye relief. I really did'nt want to go with a higher ring, but I guess I will if I need to. I was thinking of taking the rear sight off. Opinions, comments.

I'd take your rear sight off? You won't need it now anyway? my 2 cents?

I took both of the sights off, the front and the rear... with the front off it is really easy to put a muzzle mitt on that will stay on. In this fine north Idaho weather the muzzle mitt spends a lot of time on the end of the barrel...

Can you put the flip up caps on so the flip out to the side? I do that on my rear cap so it doesn't hit my hat bill.

What is a muzzleloader mitt? Is it something like electrical tape I put on the end of my barrel?

If you pull the sights (I would), contact T/C and have them send you the filler screws for the front and rear sight.

I used TC medium gorilla rings since the maximas weren't available in silver, I took off the sights and used same screws to fill holes, the covers fit now, if you don't want to take sight off you may be able to only remove top section of rear site to get enought clearance for covers, I would not go with taller rings because the closer scope is to barrel the more accurate you will be, just my opinion , Good Luck

It is a latex ballon like produce that can be rolled over the end of the barrel. It then seals the barrel from moisture. The electric tape you use basically does the same thing. I purchase finger cots at Wal Mart and they do the same thing. Also I could not agree more, if you take the front sight off, the muzzle mits/finger cots are much easier to apply and they stay on better also.
