Cant trust anyone!
Remember a couple weeks back when i redid my .45 deercreek and went to sight it in @ 100 yards with the 225 grain powerbelt and found that it was 4" low??? I just went back out with the laser range finder and i went and hit the target with the range finder and found out that it was 168 yards! That explains why i was 4" low and shooting 2" groups. Today i found the stick the range finder was hitting and throwing off a shorter distance when it was actually a lot father out there. Broke that stick down and out of the way, its ok now. Took 3 shots today with 80 grains pyrodex P, leaved the rifle off the a big tree, knelt beside it and took my 3 shots, checked target, 2" to the left the the bulls eye and 4" high @ 100 yards! The shots measured 1 1/4" center/center on the 2 shots that were spread out the most. Im going to adjust the sights back down to where they originally were now that i found out what the real problem was. After those 3 shots, i know shes ready for next years mulie hunt.
Ahhhh the things that can mess up a shooting day! 1 lousy stick messed up the first range session lol. Now to clean the rifle and relax. To damn cold out there to shoot anymore! |
RE: Cant trust anyone!
Didn't it look and feel a little LONG for 100!!!???? I shot my Doe Antelope this year with the Disc Elite 45 at 169 and man did it seem long to me!;):D

RE: Cant trust anyone!
No kidding! It was a new shooting range we cut and its in thick timber so i figured that it looked longer due to the change. Im usually out in the open with 30 feet clear cut on each side. I changed my mind, im bundling up again and going out to 80 yards with .440 PRB. First load im shooting 60 grains and then the next 2 shots im going to try 50grains. The rendezvous i want to shoot at next year is only 50 and 75 yards with shooting sticks. Have to dial in for those yardages.

:)You were makin me wonder.
Man on that doe even with a hot load IMO(110 T7 loose and a 200 SST) I heard the bullet hit after the boom!. Where do you live gander???? Cold here too! |
RE: Cant trust anyone!
Southern Colorado. Bout 3 hours south of denver. Beautiful clear cloudless day but damn its cold out! Especially in the shade where i was shooting.
First shot with my 60 grain PRB load @ 83 yards was 1" low, Next 2 shots with 50 grains were 3" low. I'll up my charge to 70 grains and it will be ready. Gotta try my new lube out @ 50 yards to make sure its offering good accuracy. |
RE: Cant trust anyone!
Sounds like the deercreek is a good shooter! Groups like that at 168 yards are very good!

RE: Cant trust anyone!
I thought so too. It will hold a 4", 3 shot group @ 200 yards which is really darn good IMO. Open sights and all. I just setup a big cardboard target and slap on a 3" orange dot. 200 yards is a lot of fun just for plinking.

RE: Cant trust anyone!
With open sights I consider a 4" group at 100 yards good anymore. [:-]
Thought my NewEnglander was shot-out until I stuck a scope on it. Groups suddenly went right back to normal. I ended up with a fiber optic front sight as a compromise. |
RE: Cant trust anyone!
Well, 8 shots today @ 50 yards and the Bore butter patches came out the winner by a long shot. Going to clean the barrel, load up one more shot and call it quits at 50 yards.

FG
What kind of range finder do you have I just bought a nikon 440 today for 160.00 at Scheels. It is simple to use and is supposed to be accurate to one foot. |
