Muzzleloaders and Wet Weather
 

My old Staghorn was in the cold and freezing rain for about three hours while hunting last Sunday. It did have tape over the muzzle. Brought it home,wiped the rain off, greased up the exterior and ran a patch down the bore.

After mulling it over for a few days i decided to unload it. The two Pyrodex pellets appeared to bedry. When the sabot waspushed out there waswater in the bullet cup: About four drops worth. This is the tight fitting short black .44 caliber sabot.

Boththe pellets immediately lit off when touched with amatch.

That is interesting. Do you think the moisture drops were condensation or from the actual hunting in the wet weather. With the barrel taped, it would seem strange that any would have gotten down the muzzle. It would have also been interesting to see how the accuracy would have been effected...

moisture drops were condensation ..i went hunting for 4 days last week and it was snowing every day ..left my ML in the truck ,never brought it into the house ,and when i pushed out my load at the end of the hunt ,the T7 pellet near the breech plug was damp [i am sure it would have been a missfire]
