RE: How many shots?
After each shot I get one patch and wet it with spit. With your cleaning jag on your ramrod, run this down the barrel quite a few times. I then take the same patch and turn it over on the jag exposing the clean side. I will swab the barrel with this just like before. Remove this patch and discard it, put a DRY patch on the jag and run it down the barrel a few times then also turn it over and run it down a few more times. This will pretty much get you back to square one. I don't know why people skip this step but it seems to be a pretty common occurence. Also be sure to read frontier ganders thread on powerbelts. I've never used them and likely won't but if you are going to use them, follow his advice and likely your friend will have success if he does his part. Good luck, Greg

RE: How many shots?
I clean my barrel between each shot...3 damp patches with rubbing alcohol (both sides)...one dry patch, oil lightly oiled patch and one dry patch...

RE: How many shots?
What I would like to know is what do you (meaning everyone) doin the field? It seems to me if one would shoot and miss, or maybe hit a deer and reloadyou wouldn't be swabbing your barrel. What is that second shot accuracy? That is the real hunting accuracy we need to know. I shoot my guns on the range using many different cleaning methods but only after the SECOND shot! Any one agree?

RE: How many shots?
I clean between shots in the field too. Just me, we'll see what others say.

Not in my humble opinion. Deer and hogs seldom stick around after the first shot misses. My shots are picked very carefully i ain't missed a shotwith a muzzleloader in many years. Only one animal has required a coup de grace in five years and that was delivered from 10 feet away. My CVA's shoot the first and second shots to the same point of aim-dead center. My Encore has issues with 777 and the second shot but i do not use it for hunting; opting instead to use JSG. |
