Johnny2 and Cayugad, Both excellant ideas except I havent been able to find a octagon barrel scope mount in many years. The other reason is just for what you said about the weight, his elbow has gotten artrithis in it that's bothering him. As far as the sights well I'm afraid I've spoiled him. I let him use my Encore with a thumbhole and Nikon scope to finish his deer off with and well it kinda spoiled him. He couldn't believe how he could see the buck in the crosshairs he said it just felt so goodto be able to see and it gave him alot of confidence.

try thompson center direct or gun parts. there are plenty of scope mount options for traditional barrels. look at the thompson center duo ring system also. if your hunting from a stand a heavier gun will keep the cross hairs in a scope from wondering especially when not using a fixed rest.

I live on the eastern shore of MD. I bought a optima pro thumbhole camo stock back in july. Love it. w/ 240 hornadays and 100 grains 777 pellets have been hammerin deer this fall. Just went and bought my dad one yest for xmas. Anyone in the area here have bought both for $219 no tax from Walmart in Seaford, DE about 1/2 hr from the house. Every where i have looked they are priced anywhere from 70-100 $ more. it really is a great deal. If you are within a few hrs of the place make the drive def worth it.
