Sighting in Muzzleloader
I was out sighting in my CVA Kodiak and at 50yds its shooting 2inch groups but at 80yds, I couldnt even get on the target. Im shooting 100grains of Pyrodex pellets with Hornady SST 250grn sabots. Would 30yds make that much difference when shooting? What could be some possible solutions? Thanks! in advance.

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
More than likely hitting to the left or right. I had my winchester sighted dead on @ 50 yards, put 3 into one hole, 75 yards it was 10 inchs to the left. Set up a bigger target and you'll find where its hitting.

Wait on second thought, You could be OVER shooting it. CVA says to sight it 1" high at 50 yards.

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
At 50yds it hitting to the left of the bullseye so would that mean at 80yds its hitting farther to the left?

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
Yep. Its amazing at how much it opens up at longer distances.

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
Do you think using a 1x scope opposed to a 3x makes a difference when sighting in a muzzleloader?

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
A scope is a aiming device. If you are shooting tight groups at 25 yards, and a scope is put on the rifle, it should then keep you shooting tight groups at 50 yards and further. A 1X scope will produce good tight groups, but not as tight as a scope with magnification. I like the 1X scopes, since they are legal in our muzzleloading season here.

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
Im here in Nebraska so 1x is all you can use on a ML. I just thought there might be a difference between the two. I went out today and had a nice 10 come in at 30yds and I missed him completely. It was my fault because I didnt take the ML out this year and shoot it. It wasdead on last year but I guess moving it around, some how knocked it out of line.

RE: Sighting in Muzzleloader
Bullet may be a little heavey for 100grains of powder. Try shooting a 240gr bullet with 100 grains. May make a dofference. Thats what I shoot and I shoot 1-3 inch groups consistantly up to 100 yards open sights.
