long time no talk
hi everyone its been awhile, looks like B.P. STILL RULES. it does in my woods anyhow. i read the hog talk and can say for sure hogs don't like bp rounds, but no matter what you shoot porky will hit the groung running if you don't get spine or heart/lungs. i kind of strayed and went and got one of thoes buff classic in 45-70 and it lots of fun to shot and to hunt with but the cost is sure high. i did get one small pig last week with it and i am looking foward to getting a deer with it sat morning. keep up the stories cause i can't get enough and the next time you make a cloud of smoke think of me down in toccopola ms.

RE: long time no talk
Good to see you back..
A 45/70 is a great caliber. When I was a young man, a fellow my Dad and I hunted with used an military style bolt action in that caliber. We could always tell when he shot because the woods just roared from that thing going off. I always wanted a Marlin lever gun in that caliber but just never bought one. I bet that would be a good hog cartridge. |
RE: long time no talk
i got a little 5 point today with the 45-70 about a 75 yard shot stright through both lungs ,he went about 50 yards up in the timber before he crashed. the damage was about the same as a 240 grain xtp. i been getting about a 3 inch differance in drop with the 45-70 x the 50 cal with a 240 xtp hp. and a 150 gr. powder load the scope is set the same but the 45-70 just runs out of gas before the blackpowder load does.
