Bad morning hunting great day at the range

went out this morning. about 10 am I was getting ready to walk out of the works. walked up a 45 degree 100 ft ridge, jumped 2 does, one gave me a great broad side, could not take it, I was breathing too hard from the cliem and the 1 to 2 mile hike I just did (need to quite smoking). Left the woods went to the range, finish working on the .430 240 xtp with 100 gr load did not take any 100 yrd shots though. my scope was off about 5 inchs low. resited it, about 1/2 in to the left. started a little test I was going to do after hunting season was over.

base line:
current load: 240 xpt .430 with 85 grs of pyrodex p at 50 yards
shot: 45 250 xtp, 250 gold don't and a 250 shockwave (3 each)

all 3 bullets is a 3 in group almost touching, with one flier (250 xtp)

went on and did a 100 yrds with the 250 shockwave, 1 flier low the other 2 touching.

does my usak like the 85 grs pyrodex p?

which bullet to use now?;)

note: pics to come later

RE: Bad morning hunting great day at the range

corey - glad to hear you got out and saw some deer. Hope you get a shot next time. Maybe if you hunt the same area, be sure to take a breather before you top the ridge, then sneak very slowly the last100 feetor so (take short steps when walking up hills).
From what I understand about your range work, it sounds to me like your rifle likes the load ok. Unless you are using a very solid rest like a Caldwell Lead Sled or in some other way are perfectly stabilizingBOTH front AND back of the rifle, your groups aren't all that bad at 100 yards. I have found that getting a sand bag under or just behind the pistol grip really tightens my groups by taking a little more of the human factor out of the equation.
I'd try pushing the load up by 10 gr until you get to about 110 or until your groups begin to get bad. Try it with all 3 of those 240-250 gr bullets, keep good records, and you should be able to determine which one will do the best on paper. Any of them should do a good job on the terminal end.

Good Luck!

I don't know if you can see the numbers, I just brake it down.

the lone bullet in the left is an 250 gr xtp, also on the left about on the 10 ring above it is a 250gr shockwave below it is a 250 golddot next to it on the left in the 9 ring is another shockwave and the final 250 xtp is in the 9 ring above the bulls between 250 gr shockwave and a 250 gr gold dot, the hole on the right is another 250 gr gold dot.
