Shockwave: Looking for more consistency
 

Hey guys,

I've fired the 250gr shockwaves in my two muzzle loaders for a while. What I find is that when I go to buy more bullets they change the color of the sabots and what not. This has lead to changes in POI.

What I'd ideally would like to to find an equivalent bullet that is cheaper and always available. Any ideas?

The key things are cost and consistency of availability.

There are some new weights of shockwaves out, and new styles. It sounds like your grabbing some of the different ones that came out. And you're right. It will change where they hit. What I would do is go on line and buy in bulk the Shockwaves that work for me. I'm talking like five or more packs. That way I would have plenty for the season and shooting.

As for a different bullet in the price range. There really is no bullet like a Shockwave that is cost effective. They know they have us, and they soak it to us. Bulk bullets like the XTP are good to shoot and very good on deer. But if you're shooting long distance, and your rifle likes them. then I would stick with the shockwave.

do you find that the shockwave and the hornady sst bullets shoot the same (250 grain)?

the T/C SHOCKWAVE is made by HORNADY ....HORNADY SST .250 grain are the same bullet as the T/C SHOCKWAVE ..they both have a black sabot ,but for some reason the HORNADY SST are hader to load down the barrel ...

i use the 250 grain SST/Shockwave in my Encore. The bullets in the red four petal sabots and the black sabots load very hard in my gun but are very accurate and shoot to the same point of aim. My gun shoots the .430 240 grain XTP and the 250 grain SST to the same point of aim. The Super Glides did not work at all in my gun:Groupswere really bad.

Thenew Hornady Low Drag sabots load almost as easyas the Super Glides and are much more accurate. But they are notas accurate as the tight fitting sabots.Cabela's is now selling the Hornady Low Drag sabot with the 250 grain SST@ $11.99 for 25.

The reason for all the "different" Shockwaves on the market is because there are so many makes of rifles with such an inconsistancy in bore size. You basically have to try them until you find the one your rifle likes. Then stick with that make/model of Shockwave.

My Black Diamond XR loves the standard Shockwave. My Knights like the Hornady SST. All a matter of bore differences I am guessing.

I believe the best bullet for cost, performance and availability is the Speer Gold Dot. I shoot the 300g uisng a crushed rib sabot with 100g of 777 loose in inlines or 80g of goex in FL. The URL for Speer Gold Dot at Mid South Shooters supply is:

XTPs are inexpensive and good, however they sometimes fragment-- the jackets from the lead core if shot fast and close. Chap Gleason
