If that does not work take the barrel and put it in boiling water (the breech plug end) or you can pour it down the barrel. After the breech plug is very hot, have a bowl filled with ice and water. Now dip that breech plug into that ice water to cool it rapidly. Get it into the vice like described above and that will often times break the breech plug loose. In the future, use a good breech plug grease. After 10 shots on the range, turn that breech plug back and fourth to make sure it is not seizing. You don't have to take it out, just twist it. |

RE: Stuck breach plug!
Well I have never stuck an inline myself, but I have fixed a number of stuck ones. I use PB Blaster as a sort of cleaning and lubing combo after it soaks for 24 hours I pour the break cleaner to it and let it soak another 24 hours if it is still wont break loose I put the air wrench on it so far they have all come free. The old hawkens that someone wants a barrel changed on can be the most difficult. Lee

How long has it been stuck???? If just recent, soak it in really hot water. When the barrel is too hot to touch you should be able to back it out then.

It got stuck last season, but I used it to hunt with anyway. I forgot that it was stuck until a few days ago.

RE: Stuck breach plug!
the biggest problem with a stuck breechplug is [1] screwed in too tight [i finger tighten mine and never have a problem removing it ] [2] use anti-seize grease on the threaded part of ur breechplug ..and take the time to clean it when u r finished hunting or shooting on the range ..

RE: Stuck breach plug!
You can always try the freezer trick, take the barrel off, put it in the freezer. next day have boiling hot water ready with barrel in vice pour hot water on and put the wrench to it

RE: Stuck breach plug!
My breech plug removal tool (knight wolverine) has a hole in the end of it a little smaller than the diameter of a pencil. If/when mine gets stuck, I will WD40 or rem oil it as suggested above thenget one of the small, L-shaped allen wrenches, put the short end in the hole and tap/pound/bang on the longer end of the allen wrench. It will usually come out with a little "motivation". Let us know what you decide to use and how it works. Good luck, Greg
