If that is a muzzleloader, I'll eat my shorts. That sucker has at least a 3x9 scope, a bolt action etc... but I guess that's how traditional archers feel about compound shooters eh?

Monster buck, probably high fence fed on high calcium diet.

Acutally you are wrong on all counts. Sometimes its just better to not say anything at alland just be thought a fool ratherthan open your mouth and erase all doubts.

You can plainly see the ramrod on the muzzleloader. Several models are now made with a bolt style action.

The deerwas as wild as your imagination I can assure you.

Sorry, but I justget so sick of the attitude thata huge buck killed by anyone else must have been poached or killed in a pen. Jealousy. Get over it.

hahaha, sure hope you got a clean pair on then... That deer is a freaking monster buck...

I got 2 black powder rifles. One is a CVA bolt action with a 3-9 x 40 scope on it.
I just got it early this yr and have to say my old one with iron sights really seems more real to carry. Looking to add a Hawkins .50 to use for next yr. Nothing like side lock and round ball.. ;)

This I agree with..the buck is awesome..NO DOUBT

But the Photography, is definitely enhancing the buck.

Which is a bit of a shame a beast like that doesn't need help.

The original pics are alot better, i had to down size the pictures to get them on here. Is there better ways of doing this? If so please tell me!

Awesome buck, but I agree, the picsseem to bedistorting the actual size a bit. The mainbeams look three feet long, and the gun looks six feet tall!Got any more details on this one?? Is this you and your buck, or a pic of someone elses'? Spread, tine length?

The guy looks tiny too, like he is sitting behind a bull moose. Something isn't adding up...a buck like that could easily eclipse the world record (at least it looks so from the pics) Fricken 30" beams it looks like!

Thepicture is a common shot called a trophy shot. The camera is set up close to the animal and the hunter is further back with his arms streched forward. This makes the animal look larger than it is compared to the hunter. If you look at the gun, it goes out of the picture because the camera is so close. That said, this is still a great buck with a lot of mass and points and would make most any hunter very happy. Congrats to who ever harvested it.

Trophy shot or not, the camera was either equiped with a fish-eye style lense, or the picture was altered using fish-eye effects on any common PC picture program. Look again at the first pic. His elbows are bent. His arms aren't even fully extended and the brow tines are almost as wide as the hunters shoulders! This is only possible with effects, not camera placement. If I am wrong, then congrats to the hunter on the new world record whitetail!

Setting the camera up so close does give it a fisheye type effect but a wide angle lense will give the same effect and is probably what they used. I've seen severalpictures of a deerthat a friend of mine shot that had this type of effect. One of them looked about half the size of this deer but only had about 14" of spread, in the picture it looked wider than his shoulders, it was taken with a regular digital camera.

True, but I have never been able to make a buck look like it had a rack 5 feet wide such as this one does. In any case, the buck is awesome and didn't need any help looking big.

I don't have one but it looks like a Savage to me. Somebody on here must have one, they can confirm it.

However, as I'm a photographer I can confirm that this is correct. Not a fisheye. Probably taken at around 10mm but the exif data has been erased so I can't see it to confirm.

That rifle is a Savage 10ML2, I have the identical rifle. You can see the MLer ram rod, also they posted it over on Doug's Savage Forum about a week ago. It is a monster. Buck of two lifetimes.

Agreed, I mean that is a great buck but those pictures are ridiculous. If the scale of those photos were accurate then that deer would weigh 500 lbs and his main beams would be 4 feet long.

The guys arms are bent, So he cant possibly be squatting that far behind the deer. Maybe a little person?:D:D

Well, break out the ketchup, bubba, 'cause that is most definately a muzzleloader.;)[8D] It's a Savage 10ML-II (note the ramrod). I have a similar rifle, except mine has a laminate wood stock. Mine has a 3-9x40 scope on it too. Great rifle. You're not one of those traditionalist ML snobs, are you? They all load from the front...

And while that buck is certainly a bruiser, there is just something not quite right about those pictures. Gun looks too big, guy looks too small, and where are his legs? His camo ain't that good. Speaking of which, if he's hunting in Iowa, where's his blaze orange? Gotta have at least a blaze orange vest/jacket on when deer hunting with a firearm in Iowa. Hope the DNR wasn't lurking about.;) Maybe he took it off for the faked picture!

Still a buck the likes of which I'd love to run into in the woods while armed!

Mike

I agree 100 %
I could take my Nikon Coolpix zoom out and get close, tilt the camera down and take a photo that looks just like that . No photoshop needed . Any wide angle lens will make what ever is closer look way larger than things that are s just a few feet back . You see guys doing that with fish photos all the time.Even if you just look at the antler( 2nd photo ) in the back next to the hunter , it still a monster !!!!! Good for him !!
