Congrats on the deer and the first muzzleloader kill. It's great when things just come together isn't it? I'm still waiting on my first. Did the bullet expand nicely and everything? I'm still looking for a good load in my Winchester.

From what I could see on the entrance/exit wounds the bullet did not expand very much. But this was a 15 yard broadside shot that didnt hit bone. I would imagine at a longer range, it would have a better chance of expanding more instead of just blasting clean through.

Actually, that's a frequently repeated myth. The truth is that the faster the bullet is going, the more energy it has. The more total energy it has, the more energy goes toward expansion, so the bullet will expand faster and usually more at higher velocity than at lower velocity through the same medium (like a deers body).

Congrats on your first ML deer. I remember mine like it was yesterday. She'll make for some good eating too. Personally, while I'd never pass up a shot on a nice big buck, I strongly prefer does because the meat is so much better.

So are you hooked? ;)
