TC has several contracts with Hornady and MMP... but that surefire I am not sure who's that is - I really do not think it is a Hornady.... Is that 230 a 44 cal .430 or a 45 .452? Is it a hollow point or soft point?? Well, guess what I just found it on the Hornady site.... It is a .451 Pistol XTP... https://www.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session=700b2d8470b3879b808598c2de8b75f6&p age=shop%2Fbrowse&category_id=359fe1327d393603 3c58b4c83a69f1d3 ![]() Here is the TC picture.... |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
45 .451 or .452, packaged with a black sabot it is a Hollow point. I just did a little looking around, only compeny I found that it comes close to what it looks like is SIERRA. I don't think I am right about that. it could be why they did not list the brand on the package too.
https://www.sierrabullets.com/index.cfm?section=store&page=item&stock_nu m=8805 am I right or wrong, I only paid $6 for a 20 pack. just bothers me that if I end up like this bullet, I like to know who makes it so I can buy a bulk of them. thats funny, why not say it on the package |

What about this? Does this look like what you have - I hope not... ![]() Does the 230 have any expansion lines down from the nose of the bullet.. |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
yes but they are not as deep at the ones on the xtp, but they have 2 long and about 4 short, I can't get them to show up on a pic worth a damn

they look likea Sierra .4515 jacketed hollow point. These are 230 grain and they have the lines you describe. |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
now I am worried about using them on deer. I check all the local gunshops. see if they have any xtp, T/C or hornady and 45 or 44 bulk, I have done a little work with 45 out of mmp sabots. grrr, suck that I am low on everything but the 230gr. good thing I need to do some more range work before the season opens.

RE: help me figure this bullets out
maybe it's a Berry
|
RE: help me figure this bullets out
now I have another part of the damn thread, should I go on and sight in with the 230 gr (sierra ?). tuesday is the last day I can get ready for opening of ML. Or should I hunt for the xtps I been using?
How ever I go, I am going find a way to do a expansion test on the 230gr after the end of the season ORIGINAL: Underclocked maybe it's a Berry so I don't think it is them. I just driving myself crazy over stupid stuff sheesh |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
If I was shooting your rifle, I would get a pack of Thompson Center 240 grain Mag Express w/sabots and a pack of Hornady XTP's 300 grain with sabots. Shoot about 80 grains of your Pyrodex RS or P and get sighted in and set. The 300 grain shoot real good out of my Wolverine. So do Shockwaves actually.
All too often I used to monkey around and then at the last minute had a rifle with a load I could not trust. Even if you ordered the Sierra they might take a couple days to get to you. Although MidSouth is real good about fast shipping. Graf's can take a while. The XTP's you can buy local normally and the price is good and you do not pay shipping, and they are in your hands for testing. |

Bingo!!! The XTP bullets are real good deer killers. With one possible exception, i've never used the XTP/Mag. bullets, but they get really good reports. i would not use that 230 grain bullet on deer or hogs: Me thinks it is a .45 automatic bullet. |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
I picked up some 44 cal, 240 gr xtp's today, $22 no to bad, I spent more on the package deals. I have some green mmps. I have shot 45 cal 240 gr xtp's with the mag express. got some good groups until I mess up my scope. should I pick up some mag express sabots? I know a place that is saling them in bulk locally.
how would they do? Be the same? |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
All I can tell you is they shoot well out of my Knight Rifles.

Seems that if you are shooting a Knight - that the regular green MMP sabots should work just fine... |
RE: help me figure this bullets out
all I need now is a little time to set up my charges. I am planning 20 to 25 loads, 5 shots each. I also planning on starting with the 85 grs of pyrodex p (where I shot the .452 240 gr xtp's with and got a good group 100 yrds). is that a bad idea or just work it up like I did the old load.
I don't think I can get another session before opening day, unless I skip the first week. I have a 6 weeks of hunting season. of couse one of my spots is my back yard. scout report I got from a family member: 3 bucks, 2 10 points, 1 12 points, 10 does, they eat corn, wheat, and barly. man that breaks my heart. everyone is out of that damn bullet [:@] |
