Windex with Vinegar - I'm a Convert.
Several of you guys have recommended Windex with Vinegar for swabbing. THANKS GUYS!
I've been using Butch's Bore Shine for the last year or so and really liked it. Tried the Windex in a 30-shot range session yesterday and it works great. Every bit as good as Butch's,a heck of a lot cheaper, and the big spray bottle is really handy. Also, itdoesn't erode your fingerprints the way Butch's does. I guess the vinegar isjust acidic enoughto really cut the fouling. I swab between each shot. Two sides of one dampened patch just about completely removed all T-7 residue from my barrel. The first side of a following dry patch comes out with a very, very light gray color. Try it if you haven't. |

"Remember with the Vinegar it will remove the gun blue"
This is too low in strength to remove the blue. I use it onmy Encore andon the receivers of my CVA guns with no problems. Windex with vinegar is just as effective as anything out there; much more effective IMO. It is also much cheaper. |

Semisane
I tried the win+vinegar for awhile in fact still have a 1/2 bottle of it, but i did eventually migrate back to the regular blue windex with ammonia. For me, regular windexwith the very small amount of ammonia in the formula it works well to strip the metal free of impurities (oils & plastic)+ it drys so rapidly carring water with it. Most of the time, if you have made the patches correctly, there is no need for the dry patch + you can use a patch of regualr windex for several shots. |

Just wondering: how does the win/vin smell?
Personally I use Iso alcohol and windshield washer fluid (aka: "Cayugad's"). It is cheap and the alcohol evaporates fast. Never had a problem with the blueing either. ~Robert |

Hey JM, it's not a home made mix. It's sold by Windex with the vinegar already in it.

I never used it.. I still use the old stuff I make. I guess if it works why change.
Although yesterday in that cold and wind, the way my nose was running I could have used that as a swab solution and then just shot the snot out of that rifle... :D:D:D:D |
