777 magnum?
 

What is this new 777 magnum? Its claiming 30-06muzzle energy.My cousin had some at the range it shot fairly well, but it doesn't say the grain equivelent on the package. It just says use 2 pellets. I've alwaysused 2 pellets ( 50g)of regular 777. Anyone chrono'd the stuff?

I was talking to one person that said it is nothing more then they made the pellets bigger so you have more powder baiscally. That claim of 30-06 speed ... well I would not believe every thing I have read. Personally if you were getting good accuracy with the old pellet load, thenstick with that.

Their "true" but slightly dishonest and misleading advertising compares the muzzle energy (not speed) of a heavy ML bullet to a light 30-06 round. Of course, down range ballistics are totally different and the ML in no way matches the 30-06.

Got to take those manufacturer's claims with a BIG grain of salt.

I tried them and they shot all over the place where as the 100 110 gr of loose will hold 1 inch groups, I hope some one else has better luck. Lee

I used it in my Omega sighting in with a 250gr shockwave with good results, using 2 pellets. I wrote to Triple 7 about two pellets of the magnum, what that would equal to regular pyrodex, never got a reply

In the test that Towsley did for Rifleman magazine, two of the spiffy new Magnum pellets gave a velocity of 1,850 fps: Exactly the same velocity that he got from 100 grains of Pyrodex RS. It maygive as much muzzle energy as a very light .30-06 load, about 2,000 lbs. A 150 grain bullet driven at 2,900 fps froma .30-06 fives 2,800 lbs. of muzzle energy.

Think about it folks, it is mostly hype. The name "magnum" sells like hot cakes whether the produce performs as claimed or not.

Again I would caution you about quoting the Rifleman article to much there was more than one mis-print and some information got into the wrong columns. The mag pellets are considerably more powder thanthe the regular 50 grain T7pellet which is the equivelant of BP or Pyros. The regular pellets are approximately 36 grains (by volume) of regular T7-2f.

There have been plenty of recorded comparisons on this forum that validate the velocity difference between the pryos and T7, especially when it comes to pressure developed in the barrel.

Not everything in print is actually right for all...

The recoil and the elevation of the POI was much higher than 110-777-FF; to me it seemed like enough of an over load to make the load shoot wild. Lee
