how much different is musket and #11
 

just like the title says, how much different is musket and #11? I am hoping to get the range tuesday and work with #11 (remington). all my work to date has been with musket caps. would I be starting for squire one if I do?

It really depends on whether you are talking about a #11 cap or a #11 magnum cap.

Basically a musket cap is hotter and last longer in flash duration than does a regular #11 cap.

A#11 mag cap is hotter thana musket cap but still does not burn as long as a musket cap will.

The musket cap is an excellent cap for reliable ignition of real Black Powder and even the Pyro's - but to get T7 started and some of the other subs in really cold weather, you really need temperature not duration. It is my belief that the Dynamit Noble 1075+ cap, from Germany,is the most reliable of all caps.

I once had an e-mail from CCI that speeled the whole thing out for me after I requested the information from them... but it is gone from my computer now... technology is so wonderful

The use of the different ignition system might make a very small difference in POI on the range. Like Sabotloader said, a lot of people get excited about musket caps.. While they work fine in loose powder, the magnum #11 caps have never given me a problem. The man thing is whether the rifle is prepared right from the begining. Oil removed, dry bore, flash channel blown clear, and the load then made.. gun goes off.

I am going to range some time, I'll shot a few loads with #11. I like musket. they are larger and easier to keep up with. I think I am just getting paranoid as opening day get closer. thinking of anything and everything that could go wrong. I keep thinking like this I may end up bring everything and leaving the gun at home. :eek:

One thing I did not mention... another thing to worry about.... #11 #11 mags tend to fit tighter on the nipple and become a little more water resistant. I could never get the musket caps to stay on tight without squeezing them - then they may not exactly fit the nipple correct...

But you are right the muskets are easier to handle but i use a capper for both so I do not even handle them.

thanks sabotloader, I knew that there was going to be more to worry about with ML. Next time I got the range I'll work with #11's may stop at a gunshop on the way and pick up a second brass capper and some #11 mags. I got a crappy plastic capper for my musket caps I may try to find a brass one for it too.

I think I just load everything I may need in my bag. set my gun where I can get to it.
