Sight Picture
A quick question for those that use open sights for hunting.
Do you use a six oclock hold or a center hold when sighting your ml and when taking a shot at a deer? Thanks in advance for your comments. |
RE: Sight Picture
That is a loaded question pardon my pun. I used to use a modified hold but I have since gone to a full siz o'clock open hold. I want to see that bullet hit. If I use a hold were the front site covers the point of the hit, then that is not possible. Also it is not possible to see a small branch in the way as the deer moves through cover. I basically look at my sight and projectile POI as a 8. The bottom half being the sight, and the top half being the POI.

6 o'clock hold when sighting in and when hunting. I like to pin point where my shot goes. I aim at the bottom of the circle and i expect it to clip a hair of the circle.

RE: Sight Picture
Agree with Cayugad and Frontier for the same reasons they mentioned.
I like that "figure 8" reference-it summarizes the six o'clock very well! ~Robert |
RE: Sight Picture
yup, me too.

RE: Sight Picture
I'd have to say I tend to cut the anticipated POI in half with my front bead or attempt to be at that mental picture when the hammer falls. I basically invade the upper lobe of the figure 8 from the bottom up and (hope?) that ignition coincides with the moment of that mental image. Guess that might be a modified 6 o'clock?
