i'm shooting 250 gr tc shockwaves with 100 grains of triple 7 and sighted in to be dead on at 50 yards and was wondering what would it be at 100 yards?

Dead Center Bull at 50 yards, you might be a few inches low at 100 yards. The only way to know is go to the range. If I believe I am going to have to shoot 100 yards but most my shots are much closer, I normally sight in at 70 yards. I find they are a high bulls eye at 50 yards, just top the bull at 25 or a little over, and at 100 they might be bottom bull or just under it. After I range test the load, I then have a good idea of where to hold. But when I am shooting for a 6" kill zone on a deer for instance, I aim dead center and it makes little difference to me or the deer.

the range i used to go to is closed down, i rode down there yesterday and it said temporary closed till futher notice, i thought it would be a little low but didnt know for sure

canecudder it really would be hard to say, but I would guess them about 1-1/2 to 2 inches.. maybe even more. It depends on where they hit on the 50 yard bull. The one thing you have going for you is the bullet is flat shooting and you have a good powder charge behind it.

canecudder, I'm shooting the Wolf too but using a heavier bullet. I use a 300grKnight Red Hot (Barnes MZ Expander, same thing) with 100gr Pyrodex pellets, and a Remington Kleen bore 209. I find I'm about 2.5 to 3 inches high at 50 and darn near dead on at 100 with a Nikon Pro Staff 2x7x32 on top of my Wolf. Only way to be sure is take your target out to 100 yards and shoot some more. A fewpeople look down on the Wolf because of it's price but I'm happy with mine being the first muzzleloader I ever bought. Be sure to shoot some more and let us know.

Running a ballistics chart on that load in my son's 26" Optima it shows a 50 yard sight in is down about 1.75" at 100 yards. Your barrel is 24" soit will be down maybe .5" lower. If you sight in 1" high at 50 you will be very close to dead on at 100. I would fine tune the sight in at 100 just to be sure and then check it at 50.

Here is an approximate 50 yard chart based on 500 ft elevation and 40 degrees temp and 1700fps with a scope for refrence.

A 1" high at 50 sight in will be about 2" higher at 100 and 4" higher at 200. I hope this helps.

Finally got to try my new Wolf this past weekend. I was using triple 7 pellets with Remington primers and 250grain shockwaves and Hornady bullets. I was getting roughly 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards which is plenty fine for me since it was my first time firing it and since that would surely be a dead deer if it happened to show while I was out hunting! I was impressed with it's performance for such an inexpensive gun. The trigger pull was not bad at all either. I did notice a start of some corrosion the next day around the silver firing pin housing. I cleaned the barrel and breachplug after shooting it, but I guess I didn't put enough attention to that area. Is this a common area for rust to develop on a muzzleloader? What is a good overall lubricant for the inside of the action?

I like rem oil. Spray a coat, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe off excess with a dry cloth.

For you trigger, If its good now, buy some Birchwood Casey Molly lube. Spray the insides the the trigger and let it dry, dry fire it a few times and then coat again. It really smooths out the trigger.

2-3" for your first outing is very good. Ditch the pellets, switch to pyrodex rs or P loose powder and you'll have better luck.

I was under the impression that the pellets wear precise measurements of powder. If he ditches the pellets couldn't his shots be more random because theyre not from a controlled group?

Pellets actually are pretty close. They are normally with in a grain or two of each other. But a powder measure will throw almost the same thing with some practice. I have only shot about three plus boxes of pellets. I personally liked them. I shoot loose also, but do it because of cost reasons as well as I like to tweak loads.
