CVA Optima
Hey Everyone;
Got a question about this gun. I would like to know if you can put the shotgun barrel on it or is it on the optima pro only. The reason I ask is that after reading an email I got from them it appears so. Here is what it said:The optima and the optima pro are muzzle loading rifles they are able to interchange .50 , .45 or 12ga muzzle loading barrels only. All barrels are available . Am I smoking something or it that the way you read it. Nolan |
RE: CVA Optima
A simple answer would be to call BPI/CVA Monday and ask. If your interested, you could even order one at that time, if they worked.

RE: CVA Optima
No you can not. Only the Optima Pro or Optima Elite come with shotgun barrel option.
I'd opt for the Elite! Its not much more than the Pro and the elite allows you to use a centerfire/shotgun/blackpowder barrel"s". |
RE: CVA Optima
Sure You can !! Check out this link.

RE: CVA Optima
My understanding of the older Optima line is that the major difference between the Optima and Optima Pro is the barrel length. Any optima barrel can be used on the Optima reciever 26" or 29". The Optima Elite is a new configuration in both barrel and reciever and is designed to handle the capabilities of CF rounds in addition to ML and shotgun. As Dave said, call BPI and confirm in person just to be sure.

RE: CVA Optima
If the old Optima would accept regular shell-type shotgun barrels, it would be a 4473 firearm and not available for online/mail order sales. There has to be a difference in the way the barrel is affixed to the frame such thatElite barrels will not fit on the standard Optima/Pro.

RE: CVA Optima
It's a ML shotgun barrel, not the standard shell type.

RE: CVA Optima
UC,
The original post did specify ML shotgun barrel not a modern shotshell shotgun barrel. That is what I ment to say, sorry if I was unclear on that point. |
RE: CVA Optima
I cant even find a MLing barrel for the optima on cva's website. Only listed for the Pro.

RE: CVA Optima
Here is a link to the non-elite Optima shotgun. http://www.cva.com/products/rifle_optshot.htm
Note it says using the same reciever as the optima rifle, not pro. It also lists barrels that can be bought seperately. This could have been a typo but I have also asked the question of BPIbefore and was told the PRO barrels will fit the standard Optima reciever. Check with them directly and verify for yourself. |
RE: CVA Optima
Guess I misunderstood what the OP was asking in that I thought he wanted to put a regularshell-type shotgunbarrel on a standard Optima. That was the basis for my post.

RE: CVA Optima
No problem

RE: CVA Optima
Hey Everyone,
I called CVA today. They told me that I could put the 12ga barrel on the optima. I told them I was confused because their catolge say for the optima pro. They said that the optima and the optima pro you can put the .45, .50 and 12 ga barrels on them. The elite was the same but you could add the rifle barrels. Nolan |
RE: CVA Optima
Well that is good information to know.. are you going to get a shotgun barrel?

RE: CVA Optima
Hey Cayugad,
I plan on going to the gun shop this weekend and put the new toy on lay-away. Found a good used optima .50 so I am going to get it and order the shotgun barrel at the same time. Figure I will kill two birds at one time. I can get both for under $300. Figure its a steal. Still wouldn't mind finding a 12ga New Englander but maybe down the road. Just hoping to get it soon. If not I guess early goose season will have to be the first fun time or late season pheasant. Only problem is I got to order shot cups on line. Don't think I can use regular shot cups and wads. I crazy enough to try it if I knew my gun wouldn't blow up in my face. I try most anything once. Nolan |
