Whats more accurate...loose/pellets/777/pyrodex?
Trying to find a load for my omega. I would prefer a max charge of 150, but will be happy with 130 if needed....what should I try for powder. Thanks

RE: Whats more accurate...loose/pellets/777/pyrodex?
In my experience the most accurate powders are:
#1 - black powder #2 - Pyrodex #3 - T-7 #4 - all the rest But - sometimes the difference in accuracy is almost imperceptable. An 1/8" tighter group at 100 yards usually isn't that important, and if T-7 or one of the other substitutes shoots almost as good and cleans up with much less effort, it gets my vote. On the other hand I've had barrels that would do no better than 4" @ 50 yards with a substitute powder, and shoot one ragged hole with regular old Goex ffg. Only one way to know for sure - spend some $$$$ [:@]and try a few different ones. |

You never know what a gun will shoot until you try it. if you go with the percentage then black powder and pyrodex will most often shoot the heavier load best.
Most will find that between 89 and 120gr is what will shoot the most accurate,if it wont hit what your aiming at the how heavy the load is will not matter. Lee |

I agree with lemoyne. You never know what a rifle will like. I would shoot some Pyrodex RS in loose form. Start at 100 grains and then work up. If it is still holding good with 120 grains of loose you should be just fine for your magnum requirements.
Swab between shots. Pyrodex produces a nice soft fowling. Granted it is dirty, but it is consistant. If you want to shoot Triple Se7en I think you would have good luck with that powder as well. |
