HuntingNet.com Forums - fine tuning the new scope

I wanted to fine tune the Thompson Center 1X scope I put on my 1:28 Green Mountain Barrel which is on my T/C Renegade. I want to hunt with conicals, and was shooting some Bull Shop .503 diameter 460 grain conicals. I had the rifle sighted in at 50 yards so I wanted to check it at 60 yards since I went to my stand with my range finder and shot all the different shooting lanes I made. 60 yards would be about the furthest I can see to shoot. Maybe if the leaves were all gone and snow was on the ground, but this should be fine.

I started on a clean oil free barrel with 80 grains of Triple Se7en 2f. I did not use a wad. I was very happy with the first shot. So I fired a second shot and was very pleased. I then swabbed the barrel and fired the third shot. For some reason that shot went out of the group. Shots 4&5 again was back in the group. So I aimed a little high and fired shot #6. I would adjust the scope more, but had also used some 300 grain XTP's in .430 diameter with Crushed Rib Harvester Sabots. I was shooting the XTP's with 100 grains of Triple Se7en 2f. This would be the load if I hunt the fields.... Those shots are A,B, & C.

I believe with the conicals all I need do is aim mid range on thezone and the big conical should do the rest. I get a kick out of looking at the difference in size of the holes from the conicals to the .430 diameter. Those XTP's really had some snap to them though, they were ringing the steel bullet trap excellent.
