DUSTED OFF THE THUNDERHAWK
I was out to day and thought I might drag the thunderhawk out with me along with the flinters.
I loaded up 85 grains of triple 777 a 375 grain SSB BUFFALO SABOT only shot 50 yards O well 4 shots 3" high over center nice clover leaf group.I just don't use it anymore but hate to part with it:just one great shooting gun I was back out in june and tried the same load at 200 yards 4 shots softball group 17" low off the bench. I now keep it as a rain gun |
RE: DUSTED OFF THE THUNDERHAWK
The Thunderhawk was my first in-line and served me well. My 14 YO son is using it now, and killed his first deer with it last year.:) Mine, I mean his,is still a good shooter with 80 grs 777 and 245 gr BP aerotips.

RE: DUSTED OFF THE THUNDERHAWK
Any of the Thompson Center early inlines seemed to be great shooters from the people I talk to that own them. I know a fellow up here that has a "woods" rifle made by Thompson Center. I think this is the same rifle that turned into the Black Diamond. Talk about a good shooting rifle. He put some strange sights on it, but they work for him. It is all he seems to need during the muzzleloader deer season.
Good shooting there Lonewolf... It is still nice to know the rifle behaves.. :D |
RE: DUSTED OFF THE THUNDERHAWK
I'll be dusting off my thunderhawk sometime in the next couple of weeks as well. It was new to me last year (handed down from my grandfather). It took a few load combinations to find something that printed well, which turned out to be 70gr FFF and 250gr Shockwave. Others tried: cheap shot, xtp, maxi-hunter. I'd still like to try the Buffalo SSB or find a conical, but at least I have a load I can fall back on now.
I took it out a few times, but ended up not taking anything with it. Hopefully this year I'll get another chance to see what it can do, then I might have to break my roundball gun back out. |
