My new addition
 

This is a 1X Thompson Center scope mounted on a Renegade rifle sporting a Green Mountain 1:28 twist barrel. This is legal in Wisconsin Deer Season, so I want to work up a load with the 200 grain XTP's and about 110 grains of Goex 3f and then deer hunt with it. I hope I can get out and shoot it tomorrow.

Nice set-up. I've never used a 1X, but always thought about it. Can't seem to convince myself to pay scope prices for no magnification.

Does it have unlimited eye relief? What about field of view?

I have a 2X pistol scope mounted "semi-scout" fashion on my New Englander. Eye relief is perfect, but field of view is only about 15 feet at 100 yards.

This is a 32mm scope. I forget the field of view. The eye relief is excellent but I want to get a better one.. a Nikon 1x20mm next, and a Traditions 1X for a different rifle. We are not allowed magnification.

I did get another gun. I ordered another New Englander with a 12 gauge shotgun barrel with full chokes. I am having them make the choke I want fit it, for turkey hunting. It should be here in 4-6 weeks he said. So I have to wait. I bought wads, hulls, shot, and everything I need to shoot it, now I have to wait. I know I was not going to buy more rifles, but could not turn this one down. The barrel is brand new.

Wisconsin does not allow magnification of scopes in our Muzzleloader season. They do allow a RED DOT or a 1X scope so I went with this set up so I can shoot it in all seasons. I have this same scope I put on a White Ultra Mag as well, and with this set up out to 100 yards the White is deadly. I am hoping this Green Mountain Barrel will shoot sabots well, and I want to see just how far I can make a "traditional" rifle shoot. Although many would argue that a traditional would not be shooting sabots. I personally say it is a matter of choice.

My NewEnglander suddenly lost accuracy a couple years ago. Oddly enough, it was at about the same time my eye doctor made me switch from contact lenses to bifocalglasses (blood vessels were trying to extend themselves into the lens area of my eyes to bring in more oxygen). I suddenly couldn't keep a 6" group where I used to shoot 2" groups!
I dug up a scope base for the barrel and stuck a 2-7X leupold on it, and miracously the groups suddenly shrank to 1". ;)
Today I'm back to wearing contacts andthe rifle willshoot good groups again with the factory rear sight and a fiber optic front.
Odd how accuracy comes and goes with them muzzleloader barrels????? :D

I took the rifle out today. It was 60 degrees but windy. I went to the 25 yard line to sight in the scope. I was on the bench rest. I started on the center bulls eye and fired three shots. The clean barrel threw the first shot high, but after that the next two touched.

I then made an adjustment of 16 clicks to the left and fired three more. They all touched. So I fired two more just to make sure the rifle was on. I was very pleased with the group so far. In fact it was getting hard to count shots. I was shooting Hornady 300 grain XTP in a Crushed Rib Harvester Sabot. I was using RWS 1075 caps. Ignition was perfect. I was swabbing every third shot. And shooting 100 grains of Triple Se7en 2f.

I then swabbed the barrel clean. I wanted to try some of the .451 260 grain Nosler Partitions in Nosler sabots that I purchased. Again, I was shooting 100 grains of Triple Se7en, the same cap, same distance, swabbing every three shots. They loaded very nice in the rifle. I was shooting them at the lower right corner bulls eye. The five shot group with them was very impressive. More testing will have to be done with these as well.

I then again swabbed the barrel clean and had some American Pioneer Powder 3f in the bag left over from the last range trip. So I loaded up some 10mm 200 gr XTPs in the blue MMP sabots with 100 grains of APP 3f. I shot for the upper right corner bulls eye. The first three shots were real good. Then I was almost out of powder and would shake some into the measure and top it off with pyrodex RS. In fact the last one was powder dumped into my hand, then into the powder measure, then the Pyrodex added. The bottom two are combination powder shots.. over all they did well.

I cleaned the barrel again and went after the upper left corner bull. This time I loaded 100 grains of Pyrodex RS and a 300 grain Hornady Mag Express in the sabots that came with the bullets. I had a perfect three shot group going and then had to shoot two more to be smart. Still a very good group. I swabbed every third shot. I was going to shoot six shots at that corner target, but a red squirrel had the gall to sit on a stump down range from me about 45 yards. So I wasted a shot. It flipped him in the air real high, but he did take off running. He might have a shaving in his toe or something.

Then to see if I could keep loading, I aimed at the lower left corner bull and shot two of my home casted .457 pure lead flat point bullets. The mold says they are supposed to be a 405 grain. Well my scale puts them more around 423 grains. One bullet was deformed a little I noticed. I was shooting them with 100 grains of Pyrodex RS. They really have some down range thump when they hit.

This is a very sweet rifle to shoot. Because of the weight of the rifle, recoil is next to nothing. With the 1X scope, it makes a very good aiming device for me. Next time out will be 50 yards, and then back to 100 yards. After all deer season will be here in November...

Nice shooting there pard. Now ya got me thinking about sabots for my Sprotized Investarms carbine. I think it should shoot them well. I have a 1 in 24" barrel. Now I got something to do next week at the range.

Well we backed it off to the 50 yard line. I wanted to test the scope of course, but how the bullets would react with new powders as well. So I loaded 100 grains of Triple Se7en 3f and a 300 grain Hornady (non magnum) XTP. This is quite the load. It really rang the steel bullet trap. The accuracy was pretty good as well. Those are the blue dots. I was swabbing everythird shot.

I then loaded 85 grains of Pyrodex RS and some 250 grain Hornady XTP's. I was using the crushed rib sabots. I also swabbed every third shot using straight alcohol as the cleaner and then two dry patches. They are marked yellow there in the center of the big bulls eye.

I also wanted to try the new wads I got in. They are Circle Fly 1/8th inch fiber over the powder wads in .510 diameter. They fit really nice. I was loading 75 grains of Triple Se7en 2f and a .503 460 gr Bull Shop conical. The first two hit low. I was kind of surprised. So I aimed for just over the top of the bull and shot the next three which were much better. I did not adjust the scope as I have not decided what load I will be shooting this season with this scope yet.

Then in the top right bull, I shot one shot with a wad ... again, aiming over the bull and hitting center. The next one I did not use a wad. It hit to the right. Whether it was me or the wad that caused that I could not say. I want to do some more testing. I would have shot more but company showed up at the house....

Cayquad, that looks; nice would you tell us the differance in your groups between the scopes when you get them and between the scope and irons? Lee
P.S. I have wondered about what is the lowest optimun power for group shooting, my Swift 2x7x40 just came in only I am all "0" in with the 1x4x28 I borrowed off another gun and MZ season is only 2 weeks away. Lee

Beautiful, I love the plain lines of the Renegade, the 1:28 GM is a nice addition. Never heard of a 1x scope, but then I don't live in Wisonsin either. I have theTC Hawken in a 1:48 and sometime after the FL season thisyear I am going to get me one of the Renegades, maybe make one from eBay parts and get a GM 1:28 in a FL. Very nice Dave, I hope it is a great shooter for you, I wouldexpect that from the GM barrels. They are $50 more than the TC barrels. Chap
