Double Barrel Muzzleloader
A friend of my is going toshow mea foreign made double barrel muzzleloader today. I had never heard of one til he told me about it. Apparently you shoot thefirst shot, twist the barrel around and take the second. My question is do you think this would be legal to use during muzzleloading season in your state. There is nothing I can find in the book in VA, but i dont believe it would be legal. I may be wrong!

RE: Double Barrel Muzzleloader
It's called a swivel breach gun, Timothy Murphy used one at the Battle of Saratoga and Simon Kenton had one made later in his life, they were usually about .45 caliber and the barrels were shorter than a traditional long rifle...Having two barrels did affect the balance of the swamped barrel flintlocks of the time, but the advantages were good, when fighting Indians...Both barrels would have their own frizzen and pan, but use the same cock and flint...
Whether or not it's legal in your state, if the regulations don't mention it, then it's legal. |
RE: Double Barrel Muzzleloader
I believe either Uberti or Pietta made a swivel breech precussion rifle ten or fifteen years ago, but I looked at their current listings and neither company shows one.

I think they might be illegal in Wisconsin. I'd have to read the regulations closer. Beside, make the first one count and don't worry about the second shot.
There was one in Cabela's called a Kodiak which was an express rifle, but this thing is totally different. Twist the bottom barrel up. What keeps the cap from falling off the bottom barrel... :D |
