RE: lube for patches?
I have used T/C Natural lube 1000 for years. I cut a strip about 1" wide and about 2' long then rub one side down sort of heavy with the lube and roll it up and put it in my shooting box for a few days. Then it soakes in the material and I unroll it as needed. It will last quite a while if you use it right when patching. Good luck and good shooting<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Sperm oil, whether real or synthetic, works well. You just put one drop of it in the center of the patch, then let the patch absorb it. Dixie has the synthetic type, the real sperm oil if probably not available unless you find some old kanoozer who is willing to give you some of his!

I have used Crisco, Spit Ball, T/C Bore Butter, I admit I have never tried NAPA water soluble oil. Coondog, where do you buy that stuff? I would like to give it a try.
I also buy my Pillow Tick by the yard at Wal-Mart. Then I cut it into 2" strips, and usually paint it with Bore Butter or Crisco. After I set the ball under the muzzle level, I just cut the rest of it off with the patch knife. Works great for me.

Theres no end to patch lube recipes, but here is the one I have used for the last seven yrs or so. 24 parts windshield washer fluid( the cheap kind you get at the drug store for about 1$ a gallon), 4 parts Murphy's Oil Soap(or you can use the dollar store brand for half the price) and 1 part Wisk-Away with penetron(this stuff has a polymer in it that is slicker than hammered owl dookie) I use this recipe for target shooting, for hunting I use a mix of olive oil and beeswax-Home made wonderlube.
