Default Shot some pyrodex with the mtn rifle today

Got some pyrodex P yesterday and a box of speer .530 roundballs. Took it out to 75 yards and got everything dialed in with 90 grains pyrodex p. Had to adjust my sights all the way up to get it where i wanted it. Had to knock the sight over to the right just a hair. After getting everything on sight with 8 shots i swabbed the barrel, took one shot at 75 yards and hit the right edge on the orange dot, loaded #2 shot " after i swabbed: and took the shot and it went into the hole same! Swabbed the rifle again and took the target out to 100 yards and my first shot was 5" high which didnt seem right so i swabbed and let the barrel cool down and reloaded. The next shot hit the left lower corner of the orange dot. After that i was damn happy. I wanted to see how it would do with a dirty bore @ 100, so i went and took another shot and it hit 1/4" low from the Two shots i took at 75 yards! After that i saw no need no fire any more shots. I think she's on and ready for hunting season. At 75 yards, before i moved the sights, 4 shots measured just a hair over 1" About 2" groups @ 100 yards. It can only get better once i switch to 100% pure blackpowder.

That sounds like some real good shooting. There are some rifles that just plain like one powder over another. Pyrodex RS is a very good powder in most rifles. Many years ago, that and Goex black powder was about all we had. Many of the traditional rifles I own shoot well with Pyrodex RS. And the best thing is, you catch it on sale and it is very reasonable..

Good luck hunting with your rifle and load.

Uh, Gander was shooting Pyro P. Nice shooting Gander. Once you get all those guns "tuned up" i hope you'll start shooting and posting some shot groups on here!

Ive been meaning too. It seems like every time i go out i forget something that i need. Walked back to the house 5 times two days ago. First time i forgot my glasses. Pretty bad when you turn around to look at a 35 yard target and you see two orange dots when you know you only put up 1
