Set up my TC Omega
Hi
1st timer here with my first ML, always borrowed one before this. I'm heading to Southern New Mexico to hunt mule deer this year and need advice on how to set this gun up. Terrain will be hilly and open. Not too many trees. I've been studying diff bullets. In the past have used Speer (TC Hawken) and last year used a Powerbelt (250gr) in a Remmington inline. I'd like to find a bullet that will put a big muley down fast but still be able to shoot 100+ yards. Also, will be hunting whitetail in Texas once I return so I'm guessing whatever works for the larger Muley will be fine for whitetail. I bought some pyrodex pellets but will be moving to powder form so I can tweak my load. I plan to hunt and shoot a lot in the next few years so I don't want to have to spend a ton of money on high dollar bullets. So, if I can find a good round for Mule deer that will work for my whitetails and shoots 100 yards accuratly and is a good value--well, that would be great. I appreciate all advice. Thanks |

Some 250 grain Shockwaves should do the trick. Out of your Omega you should get excellent accuracy and knock down power. 100 grains of powder should be plenty, but it would not hurt to try 150 grains of pellets to see how your rifle behaves. With loose powder, 100 grains again fine, and you could push it to 110 grains and still get great accuracy and excellent performance.
There are some people that do not like Shockwaves and others that rant about how well they perform. Why some have poor performance I do not know. I have been trying to talk a Whitetail into a little product testing for two years and have yet to take a deer with a sabot. I personally think they would work fine, but again... this is not based on field experience, only what I have read and seen on TV. Welcome to the forum... its great to have you here. |

Well like cayugadsaid the best for accuracy at long range is the SW,but for the best value[accurate good to 150 yds in most guns opens good but stays together] real good price I would say that Speer Gold Dot is hard to match I like the 250 but a lot of people like the 300gr both will shoot with the right load in all my 1-28 twist guns. Try the Pyrodex pellets and the T/C Shockwave bonded bullets. 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets and the 250 grain bonded bullet will do the trick for sure!

will be sighting in my Omega this weekend as well. using 250gr. Shaockwave (yellow sabot) and 2 pellets of the Triple 7 Magnum

Try out some of the Barnes Expanders MZ, also sold as Knight Red Hots. Solid copper bullets. Available in 250 and 300gr.

Try a 300 grain XTP bullet and 100-110 grains Pyrodex or American Pioneer powder. Your gun will perform more than enough to get the job done.
