Tried 777 Today in My Encore
Had a lot of hunting success with 90 grains of JSG and the 250 grain SST bullet. Then my JSG wenterratic from moisture. Decided to try777. Today idecided totry the 240 grain XTP for a sighter. Surprise the first XTP went to exact point of aim.
Fired three more rounds with a dirty bore and they went all over the target-and i do mean all over. Cleaned the bore and fired again. The bullet hole was touching the first one. Cleaned the bore and firedonce more. The bullet hit 1.5 inches to the right of the other two. 1.5" group at 100 yards. Found and checked all the fired sabots and they were in great shape. One day soon i will go to the range and find out how the 250 grain SST shoots with 100 grains of 777. Conclusion: The gun shoots the following load very well from a clean bore. The gun does not like a 777 dirtied bore. Bullet: 240 grain XTP with short black sabot. Primer: Winchester 209 shotgun primer Charge: 100 grains 777 |

does the same in my winchester, but only the bullets drop 4" and do hold a tight pattern. With powerbelts, the triple 7 does excellent and doesnt need swabbing between shots.

RE: Tried 777 Today in My Encore
That is why some people hunt on fowled barrels and swab between shots, even when hunting. They just take the extra couple minutes, swab the bore, and then load. Unless of course it is an emergency and you desperately need that second shot. Which I am happy to report has yet to happen to me.
You sound like you have a real good shooter there as long as you swab. Looks like it means more range time for you. But that's not all bad. |
