Just wondering what you fellows know about this powder. I was in Bass-Pro durning Hunting Classic, buying some Pyrodex, and a couple of American Powder fellows came over and was telling me about their powder. Self-lubricating, super easy cleaning etc. It sounded good, but I didn't buy any.

I have only shot off about ten pounds of it so I am not sure I am a good judge of the powder. Yes it is very easy to clean up, there is no swabbing when you shoot it, and with some projectiles it gives you excellent accuracy. I shot 12 XTP's out of my Knight Wolverine one afternoon without ever swabbing the barrel. I could have shot more, but ran out of projectiles.
Some rifles like it, some rifles hate it. It is as course as the gravel is a fish tank in 2f form. Some funnels will not even pour the 2f from the container. Some funnel cut powder measures will not pour the stuff from the measure. It is moisture sensitive so keep moisture in the back of you mind at all times. Keep that lid on and only open it as you load, then cap that jug ASAP. Hunting in the rain with it one afternoon, it worked fine. Shooting on the range one day, during a drizzle day, and you could tell that you were not getting the full effect of the powder. It did go off, but just something was not right.
The APP 3f works great in my black powder six shot revolvers. It also shoots well in traditional rifles. It will not shoot well in flintlocks, even when duplexed.

Very clean, very easy to shoot, doesn't stink, definitely gets the 'go' from me. Makes shooting a muzzleloader faster and sometimes more fun, but I wouldn't use it in sidelocks. Ignition isn't greatly reliable like from a 209.

I was shooting APP 2f today. Not real impressive with the rifle I was using, but the smoke cloud it threw was pretty impressive. Also I got a lot of hang fires. But every thing was hang fires today it seemed.

I won't use anything else. We took 3 knight rifles all equipped as exact same as we could and compared powders side by side. We compared black powder,pyrodex,777,and american pioneer powder. Pellets and loose powder was both tested for accuracy, consistantcy, velocity, fouling, and ease of cleanup. The american pioneer powderwas by far the best overall with virtually NO fouling buildup.

We tried a various bullets including maxi hunters, buffalo bullets, sst, shockwave, areo tip,and barnes. It seems that all 3 rifles preferred different bullets even tho all three was exactly the same caliber(.50). Honestly,I ran out of supplies and money to buy more long before I could solve all the mysteries and it created more questions than answers. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. I did notice that a plastic wad under the sabot helped accuracy dramatically.

I bought a can of JSG 3f... I'll be heading to the range in the morning to give it a try. The bullet will be a Nosler 300 grain PP with a MMP HP 12 and a sub-base,,, I'm planning on a load of 110 grains and you can bet the humidity will be high so we will see how it acts. With this same bullet/sabot I could get 100 yard 2 1/2" sometimes 2" groups with three of the JSG Sticks. I'll post the results tomorrow.
