musket caps on pistol?

Can musket caps be used on the single shot "horsepistols"? The reason I ask is that they build a big new Gander Moutain down the road fromold small one. So the small one is having a moving sale and most items are 70% off which includes musket nipples and musket caps.

I didnt see any no 10 or 11 stuff, I'm guessing they aremore popular and are gone already.

I want to buuya pistol soon, and budget constraints make it look like I'm going to pick up a used CVA pistol versus buying something new like I wanted, and was wordering if this would be worth while going the musket cap route because they are such a good deal right now

On the single shot "horse pistol" while it might work, I could not say for sure as I have never did it or seen it done. I just used the simple #11 cap and nipple. It might work, but I would send an email or phone the manufacturer and ask them as it might not be safe or it could void any warranty..

A musket cap can be used on ANY percussion gun that you can find a musket nipple to fit! Pistol, rifle, shotgun, MOX-NIX!! The difference in the amount of flame from a musket capvs a No. 11 does NOT seem to me to be significant. If you're worried about safety, cut the powder charge 5 grains to begin with.

But the 209 primers are a LOT hotter than either a musketor No. 11 cap. In addition, both musket caps and 209 primers are MUCH easier to handle in cold weather with cold fingers.

I have several sidehammer guns and I like to run musket caps for the same reason the above poster listed, ease of handling. They are hotter as well, but I have found that the larger hole of a musket nipple can cause some unexpected results. My shotgun had so much blow back with a musket nipple that it washalfcocking the hammer, and that was not an overload mind ya. It also does some odd things to ballistics. I really didnt get any better ignition out of them on my rifles either.Stick with the 11s.

I picked up a bunch of musket caps at aGREAT deal, so looks like I will be changing the nipple on the pistol I bought when it arrives.
