The only consideration will be ring height which can raise the face off of the stock .Also unless you go with some type of lens cover [butler creek etc...]for hunting in winter conditions the 50mm are called snow scoops up here in Alberta.Personally I'd opt for the 40mm cause I like to keep my cheek on the stock while shooting...........Harold

40 is all you need...I have 2- VX-IIs...I can easily see to shoot 15-20 minutes after legal shooting light...And if you are over 40, your eye will not dialate as large as the exit pupil of the scope....

If you want to help your low light shooting...go with the Heavy Duplex Reticle...I have had mine replaced and will tell you its not the target that fades at last light, its the reticle...

Either of them are going to work, I would be more concerned about ring height. Nice set up with that scope and on a rifle like that.

I have a 50mm on my TC Omega and a 40mm on my Savage, both Bushnell Elite 3200.The 50mm took the highLeoupold mounts and it looks big on the gun, the 40mm is just right on a MLer. I think the big 50 is for big CF, butthat is just me. Chap Gleason

40mm. Why, mounts lower for better cheek weld, 50's get snagged more readily on brush &not enough of an optical advantage to warrant the extra weight/size for the majority of Biggame applications. ABout the only positive I can see with a 50mm is larger field of view but havng used 50's I never personally saw that to be a good enough reason to continue using the bigger bell - 50.
