Hunting with a hawk

I posted a doe getting smashed by a race car a while ago but this tops that. This guy is holding a large hawk of some sort and afawn screams by, you will not beleive it but that hawk tracks it and downs it. Unbeleivable, not sure what type of permit you would need for that:D

I wonder where that video is from? Somewhere in Europe? That's not a whitetail the bird (Eagle?) is taking down. It has a round white rump patch with hardly any tail at all.

That's what I thought. The wingspan is big and the deer does'nt look too small. I think it would be illegal here in the states, but one heck of a video.

Falconry is legal in some states. I had a friend once that did it. He lived in Texas at that time, but I don't know which states permit it. Since so very few in the US do it, I doubt that it would pose much of a threat to the wildlife populations. The guy I knew used small hawks that caught rabbits, etc., NOT DEER!

"The sport of falconry is an arduous, time consuming and expensive endeavor. In the USA, you cannot purchase one of the hybrid falcons that we sell until you have at least a General Falconry Permit issued by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. This type of permit requires 2 years of apprenticeship under the direct supervision of a licensed falconer. Depending on which state you live in, you will also need a state falconry permit which is usually issued as a joint federal/state permit with the same requirements."

Golden eagles routinely prey on young bighorn sheep, deer fawns and adult coyotes.I saw a show recently [National Geographic] featuring nomadic Mongols in Tibet hunting wolves, foxes and sheep with large eagles. Here in Alberta I've watched falconers take cock pheasants and it was awe inspiring to say the least..........Harold

This was in the Off Season forum a few days ago.

I think they said it was a Golden Eagle...and I'm pretty sure it was in a foreign country, but I can't remember where. They guy was training the hawk and the deer was purposely let go to be caught, it wasn't by chance.
