416 I'm using the same xtp with 90gr of pyrodex, and I've never had a problem. I've killed 5-6 deer with this combination One shot kill on everyone.

RE: Bullet suggestion for 50 cal.
The hornady is the bullet I shoot in my ruger but I use the 451 cal,It has done a very good job for me,using 200,240 gr bullets, took 7 in a row with head shots from 25 to 75yds,and they just fell over,a couple of years ago I shot one running in the shoulder and it dropped in its tracks. Not trying to be a smart guy but am leading up to one year I had trouble with the xtp,240 gr.
I shoot a nice buck in the shoulder and it took off, looked everywhere for blood but there was none, one of the guys on our lease found the deer a week later,it had a hole about the size of the bullet straight through both shoulders, the bullet didn't open up,four weeks I hunted in another muzzleloader zone,(we have 3 one week seasons here)I shot another buck in the shoulder at about 50 yds,it took off, looked no blood anywhere,so I went back and set down where I was sitting and thinking I couldn't have missed the deer,I waited till after 11 because we go in for lunch,I went back to look again, again I couldn't see any blood. So I went to get my brother to help look we couldn't find any blood so I told him the direction the deer went,so I told him to go straight down the top of the ridge and I would go down through a swag between the 2 ridges,He got to the top and yell to come over there was the buck,it had a bullet sized hole through both shoulders just like the other one. In that box of bullets the lead was very hard or the jacket was very thick,is the only reason I can think of for them not to expand.I got a new box and it was back to normal the next year.Maybe that was the same problem you had.Just my 2cent worth. http://www.hunting-pictures.com/memb...ght&encore.jpg |
