New Gun Rest you might be interest in

In case anyone needs a gun rest and does not want to break the bank,,, MidSouth Shooters Supply is selling the Caldwell Steady Rest for $22.10. Now I am not going to try and compare it to some of the better ones out there on the market as that would be foolish. It is very light weight, made of plastic, but does seem solid. There is a tray down the center for shells or in my case perhaps a sandbag.

I was going to see how many loading tubes fit in that inner shelf, but I have them in that nice plastic shoe box and they fit just fine there. I only wanted to give you a heads up. From a person that has been shooting off a single sand bag or an old auto jack stand for the last hundred years, this should be a real treat...

I actually already own this exact rest and it works very well for such a cheap price, great bang for the buck, acually we strapped our down to a folding small work bench and take that anywhere we want to practice..works very well,

That is what I intend to do as well. Good to know. It would also make a pretty good work station for rifles.. So for the amount of the cost, I am very pleased.

WellI got to use the new rest today, and it might be my shooting style or the way I use a rest, but I was not totally satisfied with the rest. I finally put a large rest bag in front of the back rest and that made it much better. I was shooting my Knight Disc, which while a shorter stocked rifle, should not have been a problem. The funny thing is, on the back of the rest is a carry handle. That is the part that gets in the way for me. Other then that the rest seems good and sturdy.

As for my shelf, yes, when a lot of the powder cans are full, the shelf can bend a little, but it holds. The rest of the powder stash is kept else where in an single container.

I bought a similar one from MTM Caseguard. The difference is that in addition of the well for adding weight it also has a strap that secures the butt of the rifle to help soak up the recoil. Being recoil sensitive and having the damage to shoulders from motorcycles and bicycles it really helps. I will try to add a picture if I can.
