RE: Pyrodex vs Triple 7 question
ORIGINAL: IL-Cornfed As mentioned, swab the barrel every shot, that's certainly the condition your rifle is going to be in during the hunt. I've tried many of the powders and thus far the APP Shockey's Gold is easily the cleanest I've seen. Chap Gleason |
RE: Pyrodex vs Triple 7 question
I like 777 as well. I have a CVA Optima. I use windex patch and a dry patch between shots and has worked well. I use 777 primers and haven't experienced too much crud.
Have fun with the rifle! |
RE: Pyrodex vs Triple 7 question
The new winchester 777 primers have made a big difference in my gun with the crud ring. If you can locate some, try them.
And I too, swab between each shot at the range. Why not? With any bullet/powder combo it gererally improves your accuracy. And that first shot at game is with a basically clean barrel. I do "foul" mine when I load it by popping a cap by itself, then popping a cap with 10-15 grains powder, then swabing then loading. Has worked for me |
RE: Pyrodex vs Triple 7 question
Ya, I foul the barrel. Load 50g pellet and a cleaning wad. Got that idea from a fellow board member. From the looks I got from the boys at the range, when that wad shot out of there, I definately can tell the guy that gave me the idea shoots at his own private range![X(]It does work.
