8ga muzzleloader

I jost got myself an 8ga muzzleloader. It shoots around 1000gr ball! I am excited to take it antelope and deer hunting.

Just kidding. I was wondering if anyone shoots muzzy's 69cal and up? What is your load? I think a Bess would be sweet but I was just wondering. I don't know if I will ever own anything that big but they are interesting. Anyone shoot some large bores out there? What do you use it for?

I shoot a 69 cal, I shoot 170 grains 2F, .015 patch and .678 ball, very accurate.

Is this out of a smoothbore or a rifled musket? I have seen some of the Civil War reproductions and they always interested me...

I must ask, how's the recoil?[:o] I could not imagine pulling the trigger knowing I'm stoked with 170 grains of blackpowder! I'd be too chicken.

I am sure Cessna Flyers gun is comfortable to shoot because it was made that way. They make those large caliber guns somewhat comfortable to shoot.

Is it portable? I know some were mounted on punt boats or wagons. Lee

It is comfy to shoot, it weighs 10 pounds unloaded, and yes I take it out hunting, not to bad to lug around.

If my figures are right, an eight gauge is a .835 caliber and would shoot a approximately 875 grain roundball. Does that sound about right? 1 ounce equals 437.5 grains so that means that ball weighs about two ounces so it would be 8 ball to the pound. So I am guessing I am close in the figures. When you consider a Brown Bess musket is .73-.75 caliber which would be approximately a 12 gauge, with that big 8 you are looking at some serious firepower. I'd really like to watch Doegirl cut loose with that bad boy.. :D:D:D Personally I am not sure I would want to shoo that too many times, although being the kind of person I am, I probably would.
