Need some help
I need some help with figuring out my FPS/ Ftlbs energy@ 100 and 150 yards.
32" barrel/ 60 grains Triple 7, 225 grain aerotip powerbelt, 7300Ft Altitude. Im currently 1 to 1 1/2" high @ 100 yards. What im trying to find is the Ft lbs @ 100 and 150 yards to see how effective the bullet will be at those ranges. I just need a little thumbs up on if my powder charge will be good for deer at those ranges. I cant figure out how to use the program i book marked. Im thinking maybe 600 ft lbs @ 100-120? |
RE: Need some help
The .45 caliber Powerbelt has a BC of .211 and a velocity of 1905 fps with 100 grains of T-7 2f and 1925 with 100 grains of T-7 3f. So with an estimation of velocity at 1500 fps it is going to do the job on a deer but might be considered borderline (if you go by the numbers) by some and fine if you go by shot placement with others. I ran it through the Hornady Ballistics Calculator and it came up as marginal. I tried to transfer the numbers to this site, but they came out all in a line instead of the chart that was so easy to understand before.

FG
Using some of your numbers and some of Dave's this is what my program shows... I used open sights, your given altitude, about 40f for temp, and Dave's 1500fps @ the muzzle.... Ignore that it says for a Hawkin 50 - I just called up one of my guns and plugged in your infrmation for a 45 caliber... 1.61"s high @ 100.... |
