switching powders....

As you know, I shoot Pyrodex and American Pioneer exclusively. Coming from you guys(the experts), do you see any reason to try out Triple Seven or use that instead? Would there be any benefits to using that?

Thanks for opinions.

RE: switching powders....

Really only your rifle can answer that. Some rifles like T-7 some hate it. Some rifles get little or no crud ring some get a hard crud ring so bad they can hardly load the second shot. Most of my inline rifles like T-7. It shoots sabots and conicals well. It is easy to clean. Very powerful. And makes a nice smoke cloud without the stink. It also washes out with simple water.

It has been know to cause serious crud built up. So use a witness mark when you load. If shooting sabots, swab often, and keep an eye on your breech plug. If you shoot it in a cap lock with patch and ball, check you patch. It like to burn them up.

RE: switching powders....

Is it really easier to clean than Pyrodex?

I don't have any problems with loading right now and I don't like swabbing often so maybe it's not a good idea to switch to T 7.

I may give it a try sometime just for the hell of it. Thanks

I your Omega, using T7 will up your performance a bunch. It is far better than APP or Pyro if you are looking for a performance load.

I really think you would like it... but there are some drawbacks in some guns... the "crud ring" being the most feared but if you get it and learn how to handle it is not a problem. I really do not get a "crud ring" in my Omega, but I do patch after every shot, not that I need to, I think I can get 4/5 shots off without patching if I needed to. But I patch for consistent accuracy.

I really think a lot of the "crud ring" problems can be solved with your barrel cleaning and conditioning....

yes, triple se7en is very easy to clean up. Also it is a lot less corrosive then Pyrodex. You are not on such a tight "clean me" time frame. It never hurt to experiment. Good idea.

Pyrodex i find to be very easy to clean up. I just started using a bathtub with normal hot water and some soap and it cleans out easily. I prefer using the hot water now. Esp with my sidelock.

X150

T7 is not near as messy and regular water and soap melts it.... the biggest mess you get with T7 isfrom the primers...

ah the blowback, that will be a really great test on my x150. im interested to see how the breech area looks after 3 shots. And son of a gun i was in town and didnt pick up any cci's!

Gave my dad an early fathers day gift and had a limbsaver recoil pad put on his cabelas sporterized hawken. Had to go with a slip over due to the dumb flat bottom they put on the stock. He should be happy with it though.

I find APP hard to find in my area. 777 everybody handles, so I buy that and Black powder, which I shoot in FL. 777 does do a bad crud ring in my Omega, the APP doesn't. If you find the APP shoots well and you can get it without paying $20 extra for the shipping fee, I would stay with that, since it doen't leave a crud ring and you get very little stuff in the barrel when you field clean it. I have heard that APP is more prone to moisture build up, but that has never happened to me. Jim Shockey shoots it and put his name on it, so it can't be that bad. I think it is a little over priced also. That is my opinion. Chap Gleason

I can find any powder very easily in my area. I live close to a Cabelas and a lot of stores that carry it all. The only reason I would switch to Triple 7 is for a performance boost or ease of cleaning, which it sounds like it could do. APP is less expensive than Triple 7 and Pyrodex is cheapest around here.

So, I will just have to wait for a paycheck and try some out. If it performs better, I'll stick to it. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll let you know when I give it a go.

dangit, I can't figure out how to quote. Help me out lol.

2 ways that i use... select the text (drag across the text) you want to quote - right click on the text - choose "copy"

Then in your message:

1. put the cursor in the body of your message where you want the quote to occur... then move the mouse pointer to the "quote" symbol in the legend - click the "quote" symbol you will see in your message (quote] [/quote) Then copy your copy quote from the other message - place the cursor between the two quote marks and right click and select paste..

2. place the cursor in the body where you want the "quote" and right click again - choose "paste"

dangit, I can't figure out how to quote. Help me out lol.
After it has pasted the quote select the "quote" in you message (turn it blue) then put the cursor on the "quote" symbol in the legend up above. The symbol between <% & ABC that will put the information in quotes...

Hope this helps... gotta go - headed out looking for Tom Turkey...

I use a different system yet. I click on the quote at the upper right corner of the message that I want to quote. Then I highlight and delete any of the message that I do not want in the quote then space down below thequote thingy above and type in what I want. Then click on OK (I tried following your system but not being a puter guy I gave up and fumbled my way through this method).

Not related, but this has got to be the strangest forum on the net for posting pictures (strange in a good way). It's the only place I know of where, if you want to post a pic, all you need do is copy the pic from some place (on the internet)and paste it into the message body. No code or image tags required. You can then even resize the image right then and there by using the little drag bars that appear.

Try that here and then try it on any other forum you might visit. :)

I will have to try that. I have never posted a picture on any of the forums as it seemed too complicated for my little brain to comprehend. I am only fairly competent with the computer but a long way from really computer knowledgeable. I just bull my way through with a lot of bad approaches and finally I stumble on something that works. The technology has rushed right past me in the last few years. I have no idea what a "bluetooth" is other than the one next to the good ones in my mouth.

Thanks for the help. I have never posted a picture directly on this site but that's my next thing to learn.

Sabotloader, you have to be the most confusing explainer ever! I didn't understand a word you said. ML Keith helped a bit better. Thanks though.

I shoot an omega and 777. For years I had acrud ring after the 2nd or 3rd shot. I switched to remington clean shot primers last year and now I do not have a crud ring after 10 shots. I wondering if I am the only one that has experienced this. Every problem post I have seen about 777 is a crud ring on some guns mostly the omegas.I wouldrecommend trying the remington primers.

I shoot an Optima with remington clean bore primers and never have an issue. This past weekend took about 20 total shots dialing in a scope and had no problem getting the plug loose when I was done. Don't even use lube on the plug. I wrap threads with teflan plumbers tape and thats it.

I like that primer!

You guys don't let sabotloader fool you. He doesn't know anything. He has a secretary that does EVERYTHING for him. She is also nicer than him, better looking than him and cooks a mean beef stroganoff.

Another thing. You guys listen up when Underclocked gives suggestions about posting pictures. :)
