Teach me
I just bought a pound of triple 7 powder. How much should i drop back on my charges? I normally use 90 grains pyrodex RS and want to stay in that range. How much of the triple 7 should i use to get close to the pyrodex rs charge?

RE: Teach me
Try 75 grains (you didn't say whether FFg or FFFg). Probably in the range of 75-80 grains would be a rough equivalent.

RE: Teach me
X150
The normal rule of thumb... 15% |
RE: Teach me

X150
There abouts the nwork back up to your desired load... |
RE: Teach me
Going out to try it out in about 45 minutes. Sky finally cleared out and wind isnt to bad. Im going to start out with 70 grains T7 and 385 grain great plains bullet. See how she likes the powder.

RE: Teach me
Good luck with the Triple 7.

RE: Teach me
Well, not bad for the first load with this powder. first shot was right where it should be and the other 2 dropped down and drifted a little but im not sure if thats the powders fault or the winds. Have around 15mph wind so it wasnt a very steady hold. Recoil was very little, smoked more than pyrodex but wasnt bad. Blowback wasnt as dirty as pyrodex. Zero crud ring and each shot loaded easily and never felt anything grabbing or tightening while i pushed the bullet down.Primers also pretty much fell out of the plug when i popped the bolt back. Really like this stuff so far. I think my limit will be 100 grains of T7 with this bullet. Barrel doesnt even smell, smells more like a firecracker fuse. Once i get those bullshop bullets in i can shoot more and experiment with loads. Overall, it was a great first load, Just need to toy with it and try different loads and add a wad and see if it will tighten it up.
Now time to clean it and see how that goes. ![]() |
RE: Teach me
well clean up was the easiest and fastest ive ever done. 2 patchs and i was done. I did do a few more just to make sure. Breechplug cleaned up easy along with the threads. Like the stuff so far.

RE: Teach me
Hey WINCHESTER, you might want to try the 410 grain Great Plains also. They shoot real well for me over T-7 FFFG.

RE: Teach me
385's do great with pyrodex, im testing out the t7 now and will make adjustments once i have more bullets.
Heres the little mountain rifle .45 i just finished shooting @ 50 yards.. 50 grains T7, 225 aerotip powerbelt. Ive never had this kind of accuracy from this rifle with the powerbelts. Cant wait to see what it will do at 100 yards now. Also going to try those maxi hunters again and see how they do. First shot is the one on the far right, second is the bulls eye and 3ed is the shot to the left. I think T7 will be the new powder in this rifle. ![]() |
RE: Teach me
:D:Dthat 45 cracks me up, i just fired 3 maxi hunters with 50 grains T7, 2 showed up and measured 6" group from center to center, the 3ed hit about a foot up and hit the target board. I loaded up 50grains t7, 225 powerbelt, took my time and squeezed the shot and it clipped the black of the bullseye. Looks like i'll just pay for the powerbelts and go with these, they shoot to good in her. Now tomorrow if the wind is down, 100 yards is next.

RE: Teach me
That is some real good shooting with that load. It will be interesting to see how they do at 100 yards.

RE: Teach me
just got in from shooting 3 shots @ 100 with the 45 and i am very very happy, this thing will hold up againstmy winchester. First shot was where i was aiming, or atleast close to where i was aiming, and as usual the next 2 shots were low andholy cow did they group tight! #2-3 shots measured 7/8" from center to center. I would like all the shots to group next to eachother but i'll take what it gives and be happy with it. #1 shot is exactly where i like it for hunting. I shot 60 grains T7, 225 powerbelt. With pyrodex rs, this rifle would hold a steady 3" group. I think i'll stick with the T7 in this rifle. More shooting tomorrow, but im using a black dot target, this orange crap is to hard to see @ 100 yards.

RE: Teach me
That really is impressive. Looks like you have a good hunting rifle on your hands there.
