100 yards today

Got it out to 100 yards today. Its nice not having to use my glasses to see the target :D. My first shot was 7" over the target so i drop it 90 clicks "oops" hit the bottom of the box, and the rock in the box, reset up my target and adjusted 20 clicks up and made smaller adjustments as i went. Went up a little to far " #6" and adjusted 8 clicks down and fired 2 shots that went into the same hole and #9 was my last shot. pretty darn good for shooting off the wheeler seat and wind. No swabbing between shots either. Good to see that it will hold patterns after all those shots.

But my question, Should i adjust it back to where #6 shot is to give me some extra range or just leave it where it is? Right now its about an inch and a half high.

#4 Shot darn near ended my day when i forgot to put my hand across the barrel and it came back and smacked me square between the eyes. That doesnt feel to good, esp. when you're having sinus problems as it is. But its finally good to be on with a scope. The first time i gave up on the scope idea because i wasted so many bullets because i was unsure of how to adjust the muzzleloader scope. At 20 an 50 yards it was, 35 clicks for a total of 2" but at 100 yards it pretty much only 8-10 clicks.

This is enough shootingfor now, wind is picking up and looks like more rain today. Good start for the day.

Where to set your scope will depend on what kind of hunting situation you face. If all your shots are long range then you have to make adjustments for that. For instance, 50 yards is a long shot in my woods. Yet when I hunt the fields,I could technically shoot out to 125 yards. So I set my scopes at 70 yards. It still had me in the ball park for all my shots with just a little minor adjustment.

FG

I am assuming this is you X-150, and if it is I would suggest that #6 is to high for what I would call normal hunting (under a 150 yards) with a normal bullet.

7,8, & 9 are more to my liking at a 100 yards... most often I strive to be 1.5" high @ 100. Knowing that I will be up and 1" or so at 25 and 2+"'s @ 50. I am adding the "or so" because I do not know what you are shooting and at what velocity. After you get sighted in @ 100 to your liking go back and shoot a 25,50, & 75 yard target and get you information - same for 125, & 150 if'n you have time... bet if you aim right on at 125/150 you will be within an inch of POA.

Thanks sabotloader.
Yes its the x-150

385 grain great plains bullet/ 90 grains RS.

The paper that came with the bullets is the exact load im using and they show it to be, 1103 FPS @100 Yards. Once i shoot more @ 100 i'll go back and see how 25,50 and 75 are. The paper shows it will be 2.5" high @ 50 but i'll have to make sure and see how accurate this paper is.

FG - that looks good! Might have to get some of those GP385's if they can group like thatwithout swabbing. That's a 1:28 in the x-150 right?

FG

I ran a ballistic sheet on it also... I really did not know the BC of the bullet so I used Sam Faldo's book and estimated .160... nor the altitude so I used 4000 ft. I put a 6" "point blank range"in which means if you aim dead on the bullet will stay with +/- 3" of where you are looking....

If you can find Buffalo Conicals out there, they carry a higher BC than the Hornady conicals + of course the Bull Shops (400 grain) have better BC.

My first estimates were based on the thought you would be shooting a Power Belt.

Well anyway here is the sheet....

Thanks for the sheet sabotloader. On the paper BC says .148, Im also at 6700feet.

Yeoman, yes its a 26" barrel and 1:28 twist.

FG...what kind of scope? Most will be 4 turns per inch but not all. My max distance here in Indiana is 100 yards. I set zeroon the50yard bench. I have BDC on my Nikon and 1 dot below the hairs takes me out to 100.

I honestly have no clue what brand it is. The guy at the gunshop guessed it to be a simmons due to the red ring around the scope and how clear it is. I only paid $30 for it,about 5 years ago. Originally wanted it on my sks i had but got rid of the rifle. 3-9x32mm

I'm with sabotloader. Go with your Maximum Point Blank Range. But I would keep it at 5" vice 6.
Looks like you got a shooter there. Good luck!!
