bench rest for mz

Anybody have favorite bench rest/pedestal rest for using at the range? Why is it your favorite? I like the looks of the Caldwell Lead Sled.

I have never used the lead sled or anything like it, but I really do not think I would like something that I put the butt of the stock in them me the human slide in behind that. I really like the contact with the gun.

What I use is version of the Cabelas portable bench... i do not use the gadget of the front...

I also use under the forearm a Caldwell Rock Jr. ( I could not afford the real Rock) adjustable rest something like this Cabelas rest....

And under the butt I use a simple lead filled leather bag a rabbit eared ..

Yes, those are nice for recoil. I lifted one yesterday and it weighs like 30 or 40 lbs. I will stay with my sand bags or my "Black and Decker Work Mate". I use the tail gate on my truck for the rest and a folding chair. Works fine.

MTM has a rest tht uses lead and has a nylon strap that goes over the butt of the gun. It is aout 35.oo at Midway USA. It is cheaper than lead sled and work as good.

If you shoot alot with max loads the Lead Sled sure does help the shoulder. If you don't usualy shoot heavy loads with heavy bullets then any, high quality, solid rest will work just fine.

I use the predater from MTM. 40.00 at Gander. It's made from plastic but so far seems durable. I like the big turn nut on the frontrest to tweek the height up or down while still sighting.

Yep. Me too. I got one of those MTM plastic"Shoulder Savers" they make that has a belt that goes around the rifle butt, and has a compartment for the weight. I filled it up with 40 1-pound lead ingots from a Lyman ingot mould, and it works. But I believe the Lead Sled would be easier to use. Looks like it would, anyway.

Lead sled would be easier but you also have to add the price of lead shot in the bag which is not cheap now. The MTM device uses ingot lead so if you cast your own it is much cheaper for a little inconvience.
