Was it really that bad....

After some less than entusiastic comments from some I took another look at yesterday's shooting. By transfering all 18 shots taken onto a single target, I get a full look at the results. I've never had a gun that could do what this gun did. 7 different bullets from 240 - 300 grains, 6 different sabots/gas seals, a never before fired barrel, 50 yds. open sights, rifle target, two sight adjustments during the routine. Seems to be asking a lot from an "out of the box" sidelock. Shots 2,3,4 were off the 4.25 square. That left 15 of 18 in a 3.5" group in the 4.25 square. Drop one more and 14 of 18 in a 3" group. 9 of 18 in the 2" target square. Not quite sure what we'll do for an encore. :( Here's the combo target.....

You have only begun... those holes certainly indicate you got it.. and the fact that that is so many different combinations is really interesting and says a lot for that barrel, but it looks to me that you a shooting "right" quite a bit.... couldn't resist...

Really! I bet you had fun shooting that target and that is what it is all about.. the added bonus is total group that you shot.

I, for one, am waiting for the encore....

That's the point. The shooter doesn't have a ton to do with the results of a sandbagged gun, IMO. Got to see the sights and be consistent, that's about it. None of the bullet/sabot combos was hard to load. Used the 6" short starter maybe 3 times, rest a wooden! ramrod.

No, you are "right". 15of 18 are right of vertical POA, average .8 inches. Question: my math says .8/(50x3x12) = x/20 inches means my front sight needs to go right .0087, or about the thickness of a sheet of paper.

Would you try to move it that far or not worth risk of overshooting and is that difference usableby the human eye?

No, never enough. By using a variety of bullets and sabots I can blame the results on that! When I go to a single combo, I fear anything less than all in the center will be shooter error. Guess I'll blame deteriorating eyesight next. ;)

I certainly would not try to move the front sight that minimal distance at all. Moving the rear sight would be more appropriate but with that Williams rear sight that would not be that easy also, because there is really no way to accurately make a small adjustment. One thing to remember the distance will be doubled @ 100. So I am guessing at some point you will want to move POI left. With a scope @ 50 you would be moving 6/8 clicks left, on the Williams you will have to check the mark you are on now and and see if you can gage the movement left.

All in all I do not think I would move it all untill you decide on what projectile combination that you might ultimately use...

Nice shooten'

Guess I missed something. What sidelock are you shooting? That's impressive.

This looks excellent to me, although I agree with Sabotloader that your about an inch right on grouping. For first time with Gun, this is great. I believe you need to be 2" high at 50 yards, and that will be dead on with most 250g and 300g bullets at 100. What is this equation:

.8/(50x3x12) = x/20

The .8 is your 8/10ths of an inch right, what is the 50x3x12? and the x/20? I am guessing 50 yards.
