Powerbelt tips..
Hey all, I'm taking the deerstalker up to the cabin this week to do some shooting and Yote hunting etc... I was at Cabelas today and picked up some .54 Powerbelts in 348gr to play around with, I have a Deerstalker 1:48 twist in a flintlock using Goex ffg & fffg.
Is there anything special to know about shooting Powerbelts. I have only shot patch and ball so this is new territory for me! Do you have any tips as to a starting out load? Thanks, Joe b! |
RE: Powerbelt tips..
My Lyman .54 Trade Rifle shoots them best with 80 grains of Goex 2f. There is a lot of energy with them. I always shoot the 405 grain, but keep us posted on how those lighter ones shoot.

This is a dumb question there is no patch needed, correct. Powder and the Bullet is all??? I still have to read up on these but still want to hear it from you! Thanks Cayugad!!

True - no patch needed... the plastic around the bottom is the gas check... shoot now Underclocked has me saying it... it is not "PLASTIC" it is Polymere - a whole lot better than plastic... Just make sure you seat the projectile to the bottom.... it should just slide down really easy... |

348 grain on a yote? Im sorry but maybe i do not understand.. Are you trying to gut it out at the same time? :D
They should do good with the 1"48 twist. I have "60" 225 grain aerotip powerbelts coming in for my .45 rifle. Hope it shoots good with them. I'd start out at 70 grains of Blackpowder and work it up from there. Whats your max range? |

I'm going after the Yotes with my Bow!!!!!:D:D
I hunt in the big woods, pretty thick so I'm at 75 yards! |
RE: Powerbelt tips..
70-80 grains should put you where you want to be. With my traditions flintlock, the pig wants 110 grains fffg blackpowder with PRB. Just going to have to start with a number and keep adding until you hit the special #.

Re: Powerbelts... you might want to twist and remove the PLASTIC from the bullet, then place it back on. Helps insure a more positive separation. Some go so far as to put a dab of lube on that inner stem.
Just came here from DWBs. Been over there contemplating whether a guy could shrink groups using Preparation H. :D |
