Scoping MLs
 

Here in NY, in an effort to help bring the deer population under control, one of the things that went into effect this year was that scoped muzzleloaders are legal in both the regular firearms season, and the special muzzleoader seasons.

How many of you would, if you could, put scopes on your MLs?

I have an inline with a scope and a traditional rifle without.
If it's legal, what's the problem. Get a good quality 4X scope.

You can use Inline ML in regular Gun season and during ML season? Do you have to purchase different ML license?

treestand you will need a m/l stamp cost $18.00 bucks for a m/l season extra more money for the state

My inline is scoped. Sask, has a single deer tag system, you can hunt bow, Ml and regular with those tags but only kill one animal a year on that given tage regardless of weapon. (ML includes inlines and scopes of any type are allowed on a ML)

I already have a scope on my ML and I think it is the best thing that has happened since sliced bread!!

I have scopes on several of my muzzleloaders, and I use them in NY. Up until this year, I had to take them off during the ML season, but used them during the regular Southern Tier gun season instead of a shotgun. Now, of course, since it is legal, I don't have to remove them any more for ML season!! Great news!! I am a person who believes that a hunter owes it to the quarry to try to inflict as little pain and suffering as possible. Being able to place a bullet precisely helps in this quest. The better the sight, the better the shot!! I see no justification for the idea that one has to increase the liklihood of a poor shot by using a primitive sight if it is not legally required. (Actually, before this year, I always used a Lyman micrometer rear and a very visible bead/blade front sight during the iron-sights only season anyway! There is nothing worse for hunting than the Buckhorn-type rear sight, which hides so much of the target that it is all but impossible to hit a specific spot on the side of a deer!!)

Keep yore powder dry!!

Okay--how about this one? I'm thinking of getting one of the RedHead ML scope packages. Inexpensive, for the time that I use the ML in the field.

I don't know what the redhead ML scope package is, but I know some guys who have bushnell banners for variables and others who have cheap fixed. They felt the same, they didn't want to top the ML with expensive glass for a 3-4 days a year. I on the other hand had a better scope already and just switched to my ML, so it never cost me more than the rings and mounts.
