With the big conicals I shoot Triple Se7en 3f, Pyrodex P or Goex 3fout of the UM. When I shoot sabots I shoot Triple se7en 2f.

I have shot up to 120 gr of 777 with the 460's. The same day I shot a few 620 gr Bullshops with 100 gr of 777. I know most wouldn't believe ME when I say that but sabotloader just happened to be with me that day. For some reason, he seems to carry a little respect around here, I have no idea why. :D

Actually, the recoil is not overwhelming with these loads. I set my dad up with a White U-M this year for the elk ML season in Oregon. When I went down and took him the gun, we went shooting. I think I had him set up with 70 gr of 777 with the 460 Bullshops. That particular day, I was shooting 110 gr of 777. He went out several more times before elk season started and one day I was talking to him on the phone. I asked him how he was holding up shooting the 70 gr with the conicals. He said, "Oh, I'm shooting 110 gr of powder." I said, "WHAT????". He said, "Well, that is what you were shooting wasn't it?" I laughed about that for days.

He is 74 y.o. You see where I get my studness from. :D:D

I was wondering the load you were using what has been accurate for you?

Are you using a wad? Do you all think leading is a problem at up to 100 gr. of powder with the 460gr ?

Cdad that is awsome your dad is shooting 110. Alright I am going to have to give it a go.

Just remember, Cdad does not have a scope on his rifle. If you have a scope be careful. With the open sights on one day I was shooting 100 grains of Triple Se7en 2f and the 500 grain Bullshop conicals. The accuracy was excellent and the recoil was not a problem because the scope was off it.

There is just NO need for that much powder behind one of these big boolits. Great way to develop a flinch. Cdad, have you chrono'd a load pushing it that hard? My guess is you aren't gaining all that much velocity-wise compared to the additional pounding you're giving your shoulder,ol' studness. :D

Cdad,That 115 grain load is just about right with a 460
I use a wad (peep sight). It is a mighty fine elk load as you know
What recoil, hardly any there, It does kinda make ya feel like a real man

I have seen Cdad shoot these loads and it really does not seem to bother him - he gets up off the bench and loads another one up right away. And he really is accurate with that peep sight and he maintains that accuracy...

We have not run his loads across a chrono yet, he wants and we have to get together a couple of times when I had my chrono but just have not got it done. We will eventually, it now also would like to see velocity gain from say 90 to 115... UC you got me thinking again... dangerous...

I will tell you shooting 90 grainsT7-3f & a 460 from a Hawken is a mighty big noise and while I really did not think the kick was that big a deal a couple of days later my shoulder was pretty dark with bruising. Shooting the Renegade stock is not near as bad. Course Cdad has a sissy pad on the end of the stock so that helps some too.

Real men don't suffer needlessly. :D

And I really want to see what makes wasting that much powder justified. I used to shoot 100 grains until I realized it gained me very little trajectory wise, was often less accurate than lesser charges, and the target was no deader than had I used 75 grains. But... if you're after dangerous game I wouldn't question using all you can control.

RC, whut do you figure your drop is at 200from an ~100 yard zero (whatever yardage you use)?
